Machalova Advances to Round of 16 of All-American Championships Qualifying

No. 3 Qualifying Seed Sabina Machalova Earns Two Straight-Set Victories on Monday
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Ole Miss Rebel Sabina Machalova won twice on Monday in the Qualifying Round of 64 and 32 in the ITA All-American Championships at LTP Mount Pleasant on Monday. She will compete for a spot in the Main Draw at 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
Machalova received the No. 3 overall seed in the 64-participant Qualifying Draw. Only eight qualifiers advance to the 32-participant Main Draw.
Machalova's opening set of the tournament came down to the wire as UCF's Evgeniya Levashova forced her to a tiebreak. Machalova held up well to take the tiebreak, 7-2. and win the opening set 7-6. She then breezed through the second set, 6-1, to advance to the Round of 32 in qualifiers. Levashova ranks No. 80 in the ITA Preseason Rankings.
ITA No. 27 Machalova next faced No. 100 Ahmeir Kyle from Xavier for a spot in the final 16 of qualifying. Machalova took the first set 6-3, and followed it up with a 6-2 second set to defeat the Musketeers' top singles player.
Machalova will face USC's Eryn Cayetano tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. CT in the Qualifying Round of 16. Cayetano, ranked No. 56 in the nation, earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors last season. Cayetano won the singles championship at the Fall Ranked Spotlight at N.C. State earlier this fall.
