Sabina Machalova Falls in Qualifying Round of 16 at ITA All-American Championships

Ole Miss’ Machalova falls to USC’s Eryn Cayetano
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Ole Miss Rebel Sabina Machalova finished one match short of reaching the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships, falling to USC's Eryn Cayetano in the Round of 16 of the Qualifying Draw on Wednesday.
No. 3 qualifying seed Machalova faced-off versus Cayetano at 7 a.m. CT on Wednesday after play was cancelled on Tuesday due to inclement weather. Both Machalova and Cayetano entered the match with straight-set victories in the Round of 64 and Round of 32 of qualifiers, meeting in the Round of 16.
Earning a victory in the Round of 16 advances the student-athlete from the Qualifying Draw to the 32-participant Main Draw at LTP Mount Pleasant. Only three seeded-qualifiers advanced to the Main Draw of the event.
ITA Preaseason No. 56 Cayetano defeated No. 27 Machalova in straight sets on Wednesday, 6-3, 6-3. Machalova's record now stands at 5-3 this fall season.
Machalova and the Rebels will return to action at the ITA Southern Championships starting Oct. 14 and ending Oct. 19 hosted at The University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.
