Mahonen Selected to Compete for Team Finland at Spirit International Golf Championship

Three-Day Amateur Showcase to Run Nov. 4-6 in Trinity, Texas
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss men's golf junior Veeti Mahonen has been selected to represent his country, Finland, at the 2021 Spirit International Golf Championship in Trinity, Texas from Nov. 4-6, the Spirit Golf Association announced last week.
Mahonen was chosen by his home nation of Finland to serve as one of four golfers from each of the 20 countries in attendance to compete in the competition, which features the world's top amateur golfers.
No stranger to competing on the international stage for Team Finland in the past, Mahonen helped lead his home nation to the 2018 European Amateur Team Championship, and will look to do the same in Trinity beginning Thursday.
Mahonen has appeared in a total of 17 tournaments during his time at Ole Miss, logging a career stroke average of 73.57 with the team. His best collegiate finish came in 2019, where the Kirkkonummi, Finland, native tied for sixth at the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational. Last season, he posted a 54-hole career low 204 at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate, leading the field with 19 birdies.
The Spirit International Golf Championship is formatted in a 54-hole competition with five concurrent competition categories: international team, men's team and women's team, and men's and women's individual stroke play competitions. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are to be awarded to the top three in each competition category.
The three-day tournament is set to take place beginning Nov. 4 at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, with a total of 80 competitors from 20 countries in attendance. A livestream of the competition will be available on GolfChannel.com, the NBC Sports app and on TheSpiritGolf.com during the tournament. The Golf Channel will present a two-hour highlight show of the competition on Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. CT with an encore presentation on Dec. 11 from 3-5 p.m. CT.
