Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 12 Georgia

Rebels Defeat Bulldogs in Athens for First Time in 18 Years
ATHENS, Ga. – Ole Miss (3-4, 2-0 SEC) won 4-3 over No. 12 Georgia (5-2, 0-2 SEC) on the road Friday.
The Rebels have started 2021 SEC play with back-to-back road victories. Ole Miss last defeated Georgia in Athens in 2003. Ole Miss earns its first ranked win of the season.
"Beating a team like Georgia on the road is never an easy task, but today we really stepped up to the challenge," said Head Coach Toby Hansson. "After the doubles we really came out strong in singles and from that point on we never looked back. The guys looked very comftorable out there and kept it going all the way to the last point."
Simon Junk clinched the match for the Rebels by defeating Georgia's Baptiste Anselmo 6-3, 7-6 (1). Ole Miss led Georgia 3-2 at the time of Junk's victory. Junk now has a three-match win streak.
No. 62 Tim Sandkaulen earned his first ranked victory of the season by defeating No. 73 Tyler Zink in straight sets. Sandkaulen's 84 career singles victories are tied for 12th all-time at Ole Miss.
Making his first career start at No. 4 singles, freshman John Hallquist Lithén won 6-3, 7-5 over the Bulldog's Billy Rowe. Lithén improved to 5-1 this season.
Finn Reynolds defeated No. 9 Trent Bryde 6-2, 3-0 (ret.). Reynolds' match finished first on Friday.
Nikola Slavic fell in through tough sets to No. 18 Philip Henning, and Lukas Engelhardt lost in his season debut to Erik Grevelous at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Ole Miss lost the opening point to Georgia. The Rebels lost on courts two and three. No. 7 Reynolds and Sandkaulen had their match go unfinished at 5-5 versus No. 8 Bryde and Zink.

Ole Miss will compete at No. 3 Tennessee Sunday (Feb. 28) at 12 p.m. CT. The Rebels fell to the Volunteers 4-2 at ITA Kickoff Weekend earlier this season (Jan. 22).
