Rebels Wrap Up GARC in Fourth Overall

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle wrapped up its virtual Great America Rifle Conference Championship match on Sunday, finishing as the runner-up in air rifle and fourth overall.

After firing the fifth-best score in smallbore on day one, the Rebels climbed up one spot in the overall standings on the final day of conference action. Ole Miss fired a solid team score of 2370 in air rifle, finishing second behind GARC overall champion West Virginia and bringing its team score to a 4689. The Rebels couldn't quite catch Army, who turned in a 4692.

Individually, Horvath was the top Ole Miss shooter in air rifle after leading the Rebels in smallbore the day before. The freshman placed sixth in air rifle with a mark of 597. She ended the match with an 1181 aggregate score. Fellow freshman Martina Gratz was the next-best Rebel, firing a 592. Gratz was followed by Kristen Derting and Erin Walsh, with scores of 591 and 590, respectively. Jillian Zakrzeski rounded out the counters with a 589.

Not factoring into the team's score was Abby Buesseler with an impressive 594. Buesseler cleaned her final 30 shots, hitting a 10 on each of them.

The Rebels held an air rifle final to close out the day. Gratz grabbed the lead after the first 10 shots with a score of 104.4, just a tenth ahead of Horvath. She went on to build nearly a two-point lead. Horvath ended up winning the air rifle final with a score of 249.0, ahead of Claire O'Neel in 247.9.

The GARC match was the final home contest of the season for the Rebels. Ole Miss used the opportunity to honor a trio of seniors, who were shooting in their final collegiate match. Emily Cock, Sophia Cuozzo and Kamilla Kisch all capped off their Rebel career, firing a 10 on their last shot.

Ole Miss will have a week off to train before traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to compete at the 2021 NCAA Rifle Championships on March 12-13.
