Johnson, Swann, Tamburlini Fire 3-Under 69 During Second Round

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Ole Miss women's golf team fired a second round 279 (-9) Monday to maintain a four shot team lead at the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate in Sarasota, Florida.

The Rebels improved five shots from Sunday's first round and sit at 563 (284-279) through 36 holes headed into the final round of play Tuesday.

"It was another really solid day out there for us," head coach Kory Henkes said. "Our goal at the beginning of the week was to be the most consistent team out there and keep our head on straight. This is the type of course that you have to focus on every shot or high scores can sneak up on you quick."

Senior Julia Johnson continued her solid showing in Florida with a second round 69 (-3). She currently sits at 8-under (67-69—136) and is in third place individually. For the second straight day, she birdied holes No. 6 and 9, giving her valuable momentum headed in the back nine.

The St. Gabriel, Louisiana, native continues to lead the field in par-5 scoring (-8) and ranks second in birdies (13). Johnson is four shots back of tourney leader Maja Stark (Oklahoma State).

Fellow senior Kennedy Swann also fired a 3-under, 69, and in fourth place after a two-day total of 136 (67-69). She started her round with three straight pars before carding a birdie on No. 4. Swann registered a bogey on No. 6, but rebounded with a birdie on No. 8. Swann wrapped up her round firing 2-under on the back nine.

Two sophomores turned in solid performances Tuesday counting towards the team total. Chiara Tamburlini rebounded from a first round 80 on Sunday and tied her career-best score of 69 (-3) during the second round of play. The St. Gallen, Switzerland, native tallied four birdies Monday after just registering just one during the first 18 holes.

Andrea Lignell shot an even par 72 and currently is in a four-way tie for 17th place. Lignell ranks sixth in the field in par-3 scoring (-1) and fifth on par 5s (-3). Senior Ellen Hume rounded out play for Ole Miss with a 5-over, 77.

Tuesday's third and final round at The Founders Golf Club will begin with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. CT.

"We're really excited and anxious to get back out there tomorrow," Henkes said. "We've got some great teams nipping at our heels. We just need to go out and stick to our game plan. The girls want to play to win, so they're going to do what they think they need to do to make that happen."
