Swann Fires 3-Under, Moves to Fourth Place Individually
ATHENS, Georgia – The Ole Miss women's golf team moved up to third place Saturday in the team standings at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia.
The Rebels fired a 292 (+4) on moving day to climb up two spots at the UGA Golf Course. Ole Miss is currently at 586 (294-292) over two rounds and trails tournament leader and No. 1 South Carolina by six strokes heading into the final day on Sunday.
The 294 was the second-best round of the day by any team in the field.
Kennedy Swann tied South Carolina's Ana Pelaez with the best individual round of the day, firing a 3-under, 69 to move into fourth place individually (74-69—143). The senior from Austin, Texas, was one of only five golfers in the 90-person field to shoot under par during Saturday's windy second round.
Swann caught fire on the back nine, tallying four birdies, including three straight on No. 15, 16 and 17. With 18 holes remaining, Swann is aiming to tally her third top-5 finish of the season.
Senior Julia Johnson also sits in the top-10 after an even par second round has her in eighth place overall (73-72—145). Johnson leads the Rebels and is third in the field in par-4 scoring (-3).
Andrea Lignell and Ellen Hume both tallied counting scores for the Rebels on Saturday. Lignell carded a 75 (+3) and is tied for 18th at 4-over for the tournament (73-75—148). Hume, a junior from Whitwell, England, sits in a tie for 30th after a second round 76 (+4). She was 5-over on Saturday's front nine, but settled in and shot 1-under on the final nine holes.
The Rebels will begin the third and final round at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Sunday morning beginning at 9:15 a.m. CT. They'll be paired with South Carolina and Arkansas.
