Three Rebels Finish Inside Top 10 in Georgia

ATHENS, Georgia – Three Rebels tallied top 10 finishes as the Ole Miss women's golf team earned runner-up honors at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia.

Ole Miss carded a third round 297 Sunday at the UGA Golf Course on their way to a three-day total of 883 (294-292-297) to take home second place accolades. The Rebels finished just two shots back of tournament champion and top-ranked South Carolina.

"The conditions were really tough with the cold and wind all week, so I am super proud of the effort and fight in our team," head coach Kory Henkes said. "We played in an all-SEC field, plus Southern Cal and College of Charleston, so finishing second behind the No. 1 ranked team is nothing to hang our heads about."

Kennedy Swann led the Rebels with a third place showing (74-69-75—218) for her third top 5 finish of the season. Swann's Sunday round started a little bumpy, with a double bogey on her first hole of the day, but the senior from Austin, Texas, tallied 12 pars and two birdies over the next 17 holes to card a third round (75). She led the Rebels in birdies (9) and par-5 scoring (-4).

Julia Johnson registered her fifth straight top 10 finish with a 219 (73-72-74) to finish in a tie for seventh. Johnson, a senior from St. Gabriel, Louisiana, fired a tournament-best 3-under on the par-4s during the weekend.

Sophomore Andrea Lignell had the best round of the day for the Rebels on Sunday with an even par 72 and tied for 10th individually (73-75-72—220). Lignell continued her solid and consistent play for Ole Miss as she's now shot a 73 or better in nine of her last 12 rounds.

Ellen Hume and Chiara Tamburlini were two other Rebels in action on Sunday. The duo both shot a third round 76 (+4) to wrap up play at the UGA Golf Course. Hume, a junior from Whitwell, England, finished tied for 32nd place (74-76-76—226), while Tamburlini carded a three round 234 (78-80-76).

Johnson and Swann will represent Ole Miss at the 2021 Augusta National Women's Amateur, March 31-April 3. The tournament, taking place a week before The Masters, will feature 72 of the best women's amateur golfers in the world.

The Rebels will next compete as a team, April 6-7, at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic to wrap up its regular season spring tournament slate.

"We had three players finish in the top 10 of this elite field, which was really encouraging," Henkes said. "We look forward to the next few weeks of practice before the LSU tournament."
