Women's Golf Closes Regular Season at LSU Tiger Golf Classic

Rebels Square Off Against 13 Other Teams in Baton Rouge
OXFORD, Miss. – The sixth-ranked Ole Miss women's golf team will wrap up its regular season slate Tuesday and Wednesday as it travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to compete in the LSU Tiger Golf Classic.
The two-day event, hosted by LSU, will feature eight teams currently ranked in the top 25 by Golfstat. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Tuesday, with the third and final round to be played on Wednesday.

The University Club is a 6,350-yard par 72 championship caliber course designed by David Toms and Jim Lipe and is home to both the LSU men's and women's teams. It was designed to challenge the best while offering a course that members can enjoy daily. The design team took advantage of the natural topography keeping in mind the Louisiana Wetlands that surround this challenging design.
Three Rebels tallied top 10 finishes as Ole Miss earned runner-up honors at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia, March 19-21. The Rebels finished just two shots back of tournament champion and top-ranked South Carolina. Kennedy Swann led Ole Miss with a third place showing (74-69-75—218) for her third top 5 finish of the season. Swann led the Rebels in birdies (9) and par-5 scoring (-4). Julia Johnson registered her fifth straight top 10 finish with a 219 (73-72-74) to finish in a tie for seventh. Sophomore Andrea Lignell tied for 10th individually (73-75-72—220).
With just one regular season tournaments remaining until postseason play, Ole Miss sits No. 5 nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings and No. 6 in the Golfstat Team Rankings. The Rebels have been ranked inside the top 10 all season long, ranking as high as a program-best No. 2 back in November.
After helping lead Ole Miss women's golf to a runner-up finish over the weekend at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, sophomore Andrea Lignell was named Southeastern Conference Newcomer of the Week by the league office on Wednesday. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native registered a 10th place finish in the SEC heavy field, finishing with a 4-over, 220 (73-75-72). Lignell, who finished ahead of 19 players ranked in the Golfstat.com top 100 at the Georgia tournament, has carded a 73 or better in nine of her last 12 rounds.
