Two Rebels Wrap Up Successful Week of International Competition

OXFORD, Miss. – A pair of Rebels wrapped up competition at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi, India, last week. Alum Ali Weisz won two silver medals for Team USA, including a second-place finish in her first-ever world cup final, and current freshman Lea Horvath competed with the Hungarian national team in five events.

"It's wonderful see Ole Miss shooters excel in international competition and fun to see Lea competing on the world stage in her Ole Miss shooting suit," said head coach Marsha Beasley. "Both Ali and Lea had great performances last week. It was exciting to see Ali win her first world cup medals and for Team USA to do well in air rifle. I'm very proud of her and Lea's overall performance."

Weisz qualified for the air rifle final in the eighth position on the opening day of competition. The following afternoon, she placed second in the final, 1.1 points behind U.S. teammate and University of Kentucky 2021 NCAA National Champion Mary Tucker with a score of 250.4.

The 2017 Ole Miss grad also competed in both air rifle team events, winning silver with Tucker and Sagen Maddalena in the women's team final. Weisz teamed up with Kentucky shooter Will Shaner for a sixth-place finish in the mixed team contest. The pair of silver world cup medals were the first of Weisz's career.

Horvath, who just wrapped up competition at the 2021 NCAA Rifle Championship on March 13 with two third place individual finishes, continued her success on one of the world's largest stages. She competed in two disciplines and three team events during the week-long event.

Individually, the Komarom, Hungary, native finished 21st in the air rifle field of 48 with a mark of 625.1. Horvath also competed in the 50m rifle 3-position (smallbore), finishing just outside the top-10, in 13th. Her score of 1164 was just two points shy of putting her in the final. She also was part of the Hungarian Team that placed fourth in the women's smallbore team event, finishing ahead of Team USA.

The world cup experience was valuable for both competitors. For Horvath, she is looking to earn a spot in the 2021 Olympic Games. Weisz, on the other hand, has already booked her ticket to Tokyo in air rifle, qualifying last February.
