Ole Miss Hit for a Season-High .333 Clip

COLUMBIA, S.C. — In the first series matchup between the Rebels and the Gamecocks, Ole Miss hit for a season high as a team yet was unable to close out sets, falling 3-0 Saturday from the Carolina Volleyball Center.

Anna Bair added 10 kills and hit for a career-high .429 percentage, while as a team Ole Miss hit for a .333 clip, its best this season and highest in a three-set match.

Samantha Schnitta inched closer toward cracking the top-five for total service aces in a season with her 24th, giving Ole Miss its first lead of the match at 3-2. Kills from Sasha Ratliff helped the Rebels to keep pace with the Gamecocks as the set started off back and forth. Two straight service aces began a South Carolina run, as they gained momentum with an 11-8 lead. Attacking errors from the Gamecocks put the Rebels back into the set, and Gabby Easton's first kill of the day brought Ole Miss within one at 12-11. The Rebels continued to remain within one to two points of the Gamecocks before a 3-0 scoring run extended South Carolina's lead to 19-15, taking control of the set and ultimately claiming it 25-19.

GG Carvacho made her presence known early in the second set with her fourth kill of the day to put Ole Miss up early 3-2. Back-to-back Rebel kills allowed Ole Miss to take its largest lead of the day at five, leading 8-3. Reigning SEC Freshman of the Week Ellie Whitesides carried the Gamecocks as they pulled within one, but the Rebels still led 10-9. Service errors began to plague the Rebels, and South Carolina took its first lead of the set at 14-13. Anna Bair added her sixth kill of the match to tie things up at 17 all. A three-point South Carolina run gave them a 21-19 advantage before Ole Miss called timeout; shortly after, the Rebels went on a 3-0 run to trail by one, 23-22. Aubrey Sultemeier added her career-high second service ace of the day to tie up the set at 23 all. The two teams went back and forth to tie again at 24-24, before two straight Gamecock points gave them the set, 26-24.

Ratliff's sixth kill of the day gave the Rebels the first point of the set and started off an early 3-0 run. The Gamecocks' strong serving allowed them catch up and tie up the set at seven, holding the momentum over the Rebels to take a 13-10 lead before the first timeout of the set. Bair came out and fired off her ninth kill of the day as the Rebels pulled within two, trailing 13-11. Ole Miss struggled with attacking errors as the Gamecocks began to close out the match to take their largest lead of the set at 18-13. Fight still remained in the Rebels, as a 3-0 run closed the gap to two at 18-16. However, a 7-3 Gamecock run was too much for Ole Miss to keep up with as South Carolina took the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

The Rebels will be back on the court to face the Gamecocks in the series finale tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT, with the match airing on SEC Network +.
