Rookie Pole Vaulter Posted Third-Best Mark in Program-History
OXFORD, Miss. – On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference announced its weekly honors for track & field, with Ole Miss's Samara McConnell receiving Freshman of the Week honors for her efforts at the Joe Walker Invite.
It is the first conference weekly accolade for McConnell, who finished runner-up at the meet in a jump-off with teammate Lyndsey Reed, clearing an outdoor career-best 4.18m (13-08.50). The mark was good for the third-best ever at Ole Miss, ranking 18th in the nation, 11th in the region and sixth in the SEC. It is also the fifth best mark in the NCAA this season among freshmen.
Following an exciting weekend of action in Oxford, McConnell and the Rebels will next travel to Gainesville, Florida, to compete at the Tom Jones Classic Friday and Saturday.
