Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen Extend No. 1 Doubles Lead to 8.826 Points
TEMPE, Ariz. – Ole Miss men's tennis (11-10, 7-5 SEC) earns the No. 14 ranking in the Oracle/ITA team rankings. Women's tennis (11-9, 7-6 SEC) stays in the top 25 at No. 24 in the latest rankings on Wednesday. Men's tennis remains in position to be one of 16 teams to host NCAA regionals next weekend.
Men's tennis fell back one spot this week to No. 14 in the nation. Last week in the SEC Championships, Ole Miss defeated No. 39 LSU in the second round (April 20) and fell to No. 5 Tennessee in the quarterfinals (April 21). The Rebels defeated the Tigers 4-1 to earn their second victory over LSU this season. The Rebels have earned seven ranked wins in 2021.
In doubles, Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen solidified their position as the No. 1 ranked team in the country. The duo received 66.194 points in the updated computerized rankings, a 3.326-point improvement from last week. Reynolds and Sandkaulen advanced their lead over the No. 2 ranked team, North Carolina's William Blumberg and Brian Cernoch, to nearly nine points (8.826). Reynolds and Sandkaulen extended their current win streak to eight at the SEC tournament by defeating LSU's No. 39 Ronald Hohmann and Rafael Wagner. Reynolds and Sandkaulen have compiled a 14-2 record this season including seven top-50 victories.
In singles, the Rebels feature three top-35 ranked players; Reynolds at No. 18, Sandkaulen at No. 33 and Nikola Slavic at No. 34.
Women's tennis shifted back three positions on the team leaderboard to No. 24. Ole Miss has held a top-25 team ranking for three consecutive weeks. The Rebels fell to No. 26 Kentucky in the second round of the SEC Championships in their only match last week (April 20). Ole Miss has split two matches with Kentucky this season.
All women's tennis individuals moved down marginally in the singles and doubles leaderboards. In singles, Sabina Machalova leads the team ranked at No. 32, followed by Tiphanie Fiquet at No. 77 and Tereza Janatova at No. 110. In doubles, Alexa Bortles and Anna Vrbenska were ranked No. 34 nationally. Bortles and Machalova received the No. 77 ranking as a team also.
Both tennis programs await their postseason fates. The NCAA selection show is coming up next Monday, May 3. The women's selection will be first at 5 p.m. CT and directly followed by the men's selection show at 5:30 p.m. CT. NCAA regional tournament action begins May 7.
