Women’s Tennis Sweeps No. 21 Vanderbilt

Rebels Defeat Commodores 4-0 in Oxford
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 26 Ole Miss (10-7, 6-5 SEC) won, 4-0, versus No. 21 Vanderbilt (12-8, 4-8 SEC) at home on Thursday. The Rebels defeated the Commodores for the first time since 2013.
Ole Miss claimed its first victory over Vanderbilt in eight years. With the win, Ole Miss has earned back-to-back ranked victories after defeating No. 40 Mississippi State in the Rebels last match (April 2). The Rebels earned their fifth ranked win of the 2021 dual season.
Ole Miss swept Vanderbilt in doubles, 2-0, and singles, 3-0. The Rebels earned their sixth victory via sweeping their opponent this season. Ole Miss swept its fourth SEC opponent, and swept its third top-25 ranked opponent this spring. The Rebels last swept six opponents in a season in 2017 (8) and swept four or more SEC opponents in 2014 (4).
In doubles, Ole Miss won on Court No. 1 and No. 3. Tereza Janatova and Lillian Gabrielsen won first at No. 3 Doubles, defeating Christina Rosca and Anessaa Lee, 6-4. At No. 1 Doubles, Alexa Bortles and Anna Vrbenska clinched the opening decision point by defeating No. 54 Anna Ross and Holly Staff, 6-3. Bortles and Vrbenska improved to 2-0 as a team this season and have collected back-to-back ranked victories (No. 14 Magda Adaloglou/Tamara Racine, April 2). At No. 2 Doubles, Tiphanie Fiquet and Sabina Machalova's match went unfinished, leading 5-4.
In singles, the Rebels won three matches while only relinquishing two total sets. No. 63 Fiquet won first on Court 2, defeating Vanderbilt's Emma Kurtz 6-2, 6-3. No. 110 Janatova extended the Ole Miss lead to 3-0 in the match by winning at No. 3 Singles. Janatova earned her team-leading 10th dual victory by defeating Ross in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Gabrielsen clinched the match for the Rebels on Court 5. Gabrielsen bested the Commodores' Staff 6-3, 6-4 to seal the sweep for Ole Miss. Janatova and Gabrielsen won in both singles and doubles on Thursday.
Singles play on Courts No. 1, 4 and 6 went unfinished. No. 28 Machalova was ahead 5-4 in the second set after taking the first set 6-4 over No. 49 Rosca prior to the match stoppage. Both of Machalova's matches went unfinished versus Vanderbilt with her leading 5-4 at the time of stoppage.

Ole Miss returns home on Saturday, April 10, to take on No. 23 Kentucky at 1 p.m. CT. The Rebels host the Wildcats for Senior Day to conclude the spring 2021 regular season.
