No. 1 Reynolds and Sandkaulen Advance to the NCAA Doubles Round of 16

Top-Seeded Pairing Earns 6-3, 7-5, Win versus Wake Forests’ No. 12 Nava and Squire
ORLANDO, Fla. – Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen, the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Doubles Championships, advanced to the Round of 16 with a 6-3, 7-5 first round victory versus Wake Forests' No. 12 Eduardo Nava and Henri Squire. Reynolds and Sandkaulen will continue their tournament run at the USTA National Campus Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT. Reynolds also competed in the round of 32 in singles, falling to Illinois' No. 124 Siphosothando Montsi on Monday.
No. 1 Finn Reynolds/Tim Sandkaulen def. No. 12 Eduardo Nava/Henri Squire (Wake Forest), 6-3, 7-5
Oracle/ITA top-ranked Reynolds and Sandkaulen earned their highest-ranked victory of the season by defeating No. 12 Nava and Squire. Reynolds and Sandkaulen extended their current win streak to 10 and improved their overall record to 16-2 this season. The Rebel duo proved that their winning ways translate to best of three set matches by defeating their Demon Deacon opponents in straight sets.
Reynolds started the match on serve for the Rebels. Both teams held serve through the first seven games of the match. The Rebels then broke Nava's serve up 4-3 to take a 5-3 lead in the first set. Serve went back to Reynolds, who successfully served for the set as the Rebels clinched the first 6-3 and started out strong.
Squire served first to start the second set. The two teams held serve through the first four games until the Rebels broke Nava again at 2-2 to take a 3-2 lead. The Rebels were able to fend off two break points and extend their lead to 4-2. Both teams held across the next three games to narrow the Ole Miss margin to 5-4. Reynolds' serve was broken to level the set at 5-5. Reynolds and Sandkaulen rebounded and broke back to take a 6-5 lead. The Rebel duo won the final game at love to claim both the second set, the match and a spot in the Round of 16.
No. 124 Siphosothando Montsi (Illinois) def. No. 16 Finn Reynolds, 6-4, 7-6 (4)
Oracle/ITA No. 16 ranked Reynolds had his singles tournament run halted in the Round of 32. Reynolds fought hard in a close match versus No. 124 Montsi, falling in two tight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Reynolds competed in in the NCAA Singles Championships for the first time in his career and was the only Rebel to reach the second round in the 2021 tournament. Reynolds ends the season with a 12-11 overall record and co-led Ole Miss with eight ranked victories. He achieved a career high singles ranking of No. 11 earlier this season (March 30). Montsi improved to 18-3 overall this season. He was a First Team All-Big Ten unanimous selection this year.

Montsi then broke Reynolds' serve and took a 3-2 lead over the Rebel. The break proved decisive as both student-athletes held their serve the rest of the way in the set and Reynolds dropped the first set, 6-4.
Reynolds began on serve again in the second set and jumped ahead to a sizable lead over Montsi. Reynolds broke Montsi early to go up 3-1 and extended his lead 5-2. Reynolds was on the brink of forcing the third set before Montsi won three-straight games to tie the second set 5-5. Reynolds held serve to go up 6-5, and Montsi won the next game to go to a tiebreak. Montsi controlled the tiebreak to start and took a 5-1 lead at the changeover. Reynolds began to mount a comeback and narrowed Montsi's lead to 6-4. Montsi won the tiebreak on the second match point, 7-4, and earned a straight-sets victory over Reynolds. Reynolds fell to 1-7 in tiebreaks this season.
