Machalova Awarded At-Large Bid into Individual Title Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS – Sabina Machalova will represent Ole Miss for the NCAA Singles Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. Machalova earned one of 51 at-large bids into the individual national championship as released by the NCAA on Tuesday. The 64-person draw begins on May 23 and goes through May 28.
Sabina Machalova earned her first career selection into the NCAA Singles Championship. Machalova was the highest-ranked Rebel all season and ranked as high as No. 16 this season. In the most recent Oracle/ITA singles rankings, Machalova placed No. 32 on the individual leaderboard. Machalova starred for Ole Miss at No. 1 singles this season compiling an 8-7 (5-5 SEC) duals record including three wins versus top-50 ranked opponents. She was named All-SEC for the second time in her career this season and earned All-SEC First Team distinction for the first time in 2021.
Machalova is the first Rebel to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships since Arianne Hartono won the tournament in 2018 as the No. 7 overall seed. Hartono became the first individual champion in program history.
Machalova is the second active Rebel to qualify for either the NCAA Singles or Doubles Championships. In 2017 Alexa Bortles competed as a freshman and sophomore alongside Hartono in the NCAA Doubles Championships in 2017 and 2018.
The tournament draw is scheduled to be released at a later date.
