Second-Seeded Rebels Aim for Third Straight NCAA Championship Appearance

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 5 Ole Miss women's golf team travels to Baton Rouge for the NCAA Regionals beginning on Monday.
 
It's the 12th time in program history that the Rebels have qualified for a regional.
 
The Baton Rouge Regional includes No. 1 seed and host LSU, as well as SEC foes join Mississippi State and Alabama. The top six teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 21-26, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

 LAST TIME OUT
The Ole Miss women's golf team fell in the quarterfinals of the SEC Championship after earning the No. 4 seed headed into match play in Birmingham, Alabama. Senior Julia Johnson finished at 11-under (67-70-68—205) and tied for fifth place individually. It marked the 15th top 5 finish of her career, a new program-best passing Sarah Britt's mark of 14 set from 1989-93. Ellen Hume shot 7-under for the tournament (68-70-71—209) and finished tied for 13th place.  

 THE COURSE
The University Club is a 6,350-yard par 72 championship caliber course designed by David Toms and Jim Lipe and is home to both the LSU men's and women's teams. It was designed to challenge the best while offering a course that members can enjoy daily. The design team took advantage of the natural topography keeping in mind the Louisiana Wetlands that surround this challenging design. 

 POSTSEASON SUCCESS
The trip to the Baton Rouge marks Ole Miss' 12th NCAA Regional appearance and third straight. The Rebels earned the No. 2 seed in the Baton Rouge Regional, the highest seed ever in program history. The Rebels have qualified for the last two NCAA Championships, with a third place showing at the Stanford Regional in 2018 and sixth in 2019 in Norman, Oklahoma.

 OLE MISS DUO EARNS ALL-SEC ACCOLADES
Two Ole Miss women's golfers earned SEC postseason recognition last week. Voted on by the conference coaches, Julia Johnson was selected to the first team, while senior Kennedy Swann earned second-team honors. Macy Somoskey also earned a spot on the SEC Community Service team. It marked the second straight year Johnson has received first-team All-SEC accolades.

 REBELS IN THE POLLS
Ole Miss currently ranks No. 5 nationally in the Golfstat Team Rankings and No. 6 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. The Rebels have been ranked inside the top 10 all season long, ranking as high as a program-best No. 2 back in November.

 JOHNSON NAMED TO ARNOLD PALMER CUP TEAM
For the second straight year, Ole Miss' Julia Johnson has been selected to represent the United States in the Arnold Palmer Cup. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 11-13 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Johnson is one of 24 golfers (12 male, 12 female) that will compete for the United States. The full International and United States teams were announced Tuesday morning by the Golf Channel. Three Rebels have been selected to participate in the event (Braden Thornberry, 2018; Jonathan Randolph, 2010), but Johnson becomes the first to be selected twice for the competition.
