Rebel Punter Averaged Over 46 Yards per Punt Last Season

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Ole Miss punter Mac Brown becomes the latest Rebel to land on a national watch list as the senior was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List Wednesday by the Augusta Sports Council.

The Ray Guy Award was created in 2000 to honor College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy and is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate punter. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.

Brown, who exercising an additional year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic, averaged a career-best 46.6 yards per punt last season, including a long of 59 yards. 11 of his 27 punts went 50 or more yards.

The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native ranks fifth all-time in program history with a career average of 43.6 yards per punt. He has appeared in 38 career games over his four years at Ole Miss.

Brown is also a nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team. He started the Awesome Lemonade Stand when he was in seventh grade to help a family friend that was battling ALS.

10 years later, an original goal of $500 has ballooned to over $125,000 raised by Brown and his friends for ALS research. The Awesome Lemonade Stand is held on a late day in June and the 2021 fundraiser raised nearly $25,000 alone.

In mid-November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the ten semifinalists, who will be announced on Nov. 10. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists to be announced on Nov. 23.

After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation's top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021.
