Rebel Front-Line Looks to Build Off Record-Setting Performances
OXFORD, Miss.— With the start of Ole Miss volleyball's 2021 season quickly approaching, OleMissSports.com takes a deeper look into the Rebel roster as they prepare for the second season under head coach Kayla Banwarth.
The Rebels return a strong presence at the net heading into the fall after tying the program single-match block record last season with 18.0 blocks at LSU. This also marked the second-most blocks in a single match by an SEC team last season.
Senior Aubrey Sultemeier looks to continue to climb up the Rebel record book during her last season in Oxford as the Texas native ranks eighth in program history in the rally scoring era with a total of 259 career blocks. Sultemeier is just 28 blocks away from cracking the top-five, yet already holds the top-spot in Ole Miss history with the single-match block assist record with nine twice in her first three seasons.
After missing the fall segment last year due to injury, sophomore Sasha Ratliff made a splash last spring, racking up 56 blocks through 14 matches. Her total of 1.02 blocks per set led the Rebels as a team and ranked seventh in the SEC. Ratliff also tacked on five matches with five or more blocks and accounted for nine of the Rebels' 18.0 blocks in the record setting performance at LSU.
Payton Brgoch is poised to assist the Ole Miss front line after appearing in 15 matches as a freshman and totaling 19.0 blocks for an average of .56 per set, while freshman Charlotte Rodgers looks to provide backup to the Rebel defense.
Ole Miss kicks off the 2021 season with two matches at the Troy Invitational from August 27-28. The Rebels will take on the host Trojans Friday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+, while Ole Miss will face off against UAB on Saturday at 4 p.m.
