Men’s Tennis to Host ITA Kickoff Weekend Region Saturday and Sunday

No. 18 Rebels Face No. 22 Oklahoma in First Round at 1 p.m. CT Saturday
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 18 Ole Miss men's tennis readies to host No. 22 Oklahoma, No. 25 Illinois and NC State for ITA Kickoff Weekend Saturday and Sunday. The Rebels face the Sooners at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday to open the weekend. The winner of the four-team draw advances to the ITA National Indoor Tournament.
ITA Kickoff Weekend serves as the preliminary qualifiers for the ITA National Indoor Tournament. The Rebels must win two matches in-a-row at home in the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center to advance to this years' national event at the University of Washington from Feb. 18 to Feb. 21. Ole Miss is the No. 1 seed in the region followed by No. 2 seed Illinois, No. 3 seed N.C. State and No. 4 seed Oklahoma. The draw was determined via a team ordered self-selected draft in June.
Hosting Heroics
The Rebels will host a regional draw of the second consecutive major collegiate tennis team event. Ole Miss hosted a regional section of the NCAA Team Championships last May, sweeping both Belmont and Tulane to advance to the NCAA Championship final site in Orlando.
Ole Miss competed in ITA Kickoff competition last season at NC State, placing third in the Raleigh Region.
Starting Out Swinging
The No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels start the season 3-0 (0-0 SEC) after earning two sweeps versus Tennessee State on Jan. 19 and defeating Alabama, 4-3, in a non-conference match at home. Ole Miss has earned an overall record of 59-30 in singles and 21-9 in doubles in 2021-22.
Sooner Scouting Report
The No. 22 Sooners (5-0, 0-0 Big XII) enter the weekend undefeated after winning at home versus Incarnate Word, Bryant, Purdue, Abilene Christian and Nebraska. Oklahoma's roster features three ranked singles players, No. 31 Mason Belier, No. 49 Mark Mandlik and No. 54 Jordan Hasson.
Fighting the Illini
No. 24 Illinois (1-1, 0-0 Big 10) enters the weekend with a win and a loss both via sweeps on Jan. 22. The Fighting Illini lost at home, 4-0, to Ohio State and defeated Chicago State, 4-0, on the same day.
Illinois also features three ranked singles players, No. 97 Oliver Stuart, No. 113 Alex Brown and No. 116 Kewisi Kenyatte.
Illinois will be the host site of the 2022 NCAA Tennis Championships.
The State of the Wolfpack
NC State (2-0, 0-0 ACC) opened their season with two home wins on Jan. 20. The Wolfpack defeated Princeton, 6-1, and won 7-0 versus Campbell.
NC State's top singles player, Robin Catry, ranks No. 36 in the nation in singles.

Food trucks will be on site at Galtney Center for both days of play this weekend. Hotbox Hibachi will be outside the stadium on Saturday and Blenz Bowls will be available for purchase on Sunday.
