Host Husted Sits Tied for Eighth After Day One in Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. – Four members of the Ole Miss women's golf team took part in the opening day of the Lady Bulldog Invitational on Saturday in Athens, Georgia.
Freshman Natacha Host Husted led the way for the Rebels by concluding day one in a tie for eighth place.
The 36-hole, individual-only tournament is taking place at the University of Georgia Golf Course, and features a total of 41 golfers from nine different schools including the four Rebels in attendance.
Leading the way for Ole Miss at the end of the tournament's opening round was Host Husted, whose round of 75 (+3) on Saturday secured her a share of eighth place overall. Host Husted led the team in both par-3 (+1) and par-4 (+2) scoring on the day.
If her position holds following Sunday's second and final round of the tournament, this will mark Host Husted's second career top 10 finish with the Rebels.
Right behind Host Husted on the leaderboard was redshirt-freshman McKinley Cunningham and her five-over round of 77 on the day. Earning par on a total of 14 holes, second-most in the field, Cunningham now sits tied for 15th with a chance to earn her first collegiate top 20 finish with the Rebels.
Completing her first collegiate round of golf with the Rebels was freshman Maddie May, as the Christchurch, New Zealand, native netted a team-high total of three birdies to earn a share of 22nd with a score of 79 (+7).
Rounding out play for the Rebels was senior Ellen Hutchinson-Kay, who ended day one in Athens with an 82 (+10) scorecard in the Taby, Sweden, native's first tournament appearance for Ole Miss in the 2021-22 season.
The Lady Bulldog Invitational will wrap up play on Sunday with 18 holes to decide the tournament's individual champion. Play will resume at the UGA Golf Course with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. CT.
