Rifle Routs Army in Third Straight Win, 4720-4616

Julianna Hays Sets Career Mark in Smallbore
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle routed Army for its third straight win, firing an impressive team score in the 4720-4616 victory. The Rebels led the pack, finishing with seven of the top eight individuals in the match, including each of the top four.
Ole Miss (3-1) took command of the match in smallbore, scoring 52 higher than Army with a 2347, and then increased the lead more in air rifle to take down the Black Knights.
Senior Kristen Derting topped the charts, tying her career-high aggregate score with 1185. Julianna Hays and Lea Horvath followed with identical scores of 1179. Emma Pereira, the Virginia native, finished fourth overall with an 1174 aggregate score.
After staying in the 580s the first three matches, freshman Hays blew those scores out of the water with a career-high 591 in smallbore, helped by her perfect 200 in prone. Derting hit a 588, and Pereira a 587 to round out the top three in smallbore. Lea Horvath landed in the top five, adding a 581 to Ole Miss' team score.
The Rebels dominated the scoreboard in air rifle, grabbing the top seven score totals. Horvath led the way with a 598 after finishing perfect in her last 30 shots. Derting continued to excel in air rifle, posting another 597. She has yet to fire below a 595 on the year. Junior Martini Gratz was the other Rebel to score in the 590s. The rest of the Rebel shooters scored above 585.
Army compiled a team score of 4616 (2295 in smallbore and 2321 in air rifle). Claudia Sigel led the Black Knights, firing an 1161 aggregate score. Sigel finished with a top-five smallbore total as well.
Ole Miss is back on the road again for a match against Memphis. The Rebels face the Tigers on Sunday, November 6, beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
