Ole Miss Aims to Extend Win Streak

On the Line
  • Currently on a three-match win streak, Ole Miss rifle travels to Memphis on November 6, starting at 9 a.m.
  • The Rebels lead the all-time series against Memphis, 9-2, winning the last seven matches. Ole Miss defeated Memphis last season, 4723-4646. The Rebels have never lost at home or on the road.
  • Ole Miss started off GARC play with a win over Army on October 22. The Rebels are 14-2 in the conference the last three seasons.
  • The Rebels win over UT Martin earned Coach Marsha Beasley her 200th career win.
  • Ole Miss posted their fifth-best score in program history and a season-high against UT Martin with an aggregate score of 4728.
  • Senior Kristen Derting broke her career-high air rifle score with a 598 against UT Martin. Derting also tied her career-high aggregate score of 1185 against Army.
  • Freshmen Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira both have a score of 590 or higher in smallbore. Ole Miss is the only program in the nation with two freshmen to score 590 or higher in smallbore.
  • Senior Lea Horvath's aggregate score of 1187 against UT Martin is top-15 in the nation.
  • Ole Miss rifle is ranked fourth in the College Rifle Coaches Association. The team started as the second ranked team in the nation.
Last Time on the Range
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle routed Army for its third straight win, firing an impressive team score in the 4720-4616 victory. The Rebels led the pack, finishing with seven of the top eight individuals in the match, including each of the top four.

Ole Miss (3-1) took command of the match in smallbore, scoring 52 higher than Army with a 2347, and then increased the lead more in air rifle to take down the Black Knights.
 
Senior Kristen Derting topped the charts, tying her career-high aggregate score with 1185. Julianna Hays and Lea Horvath followed with identical scores of 1179. Emma Pereira, the Virginia native, finished fourth overall with an 1174 aggregate score.
 
After staying in the 580s the first three matches, freshman Hays blew those scores out of the water with a career-high 591 in smallbore, helped by her perfect 200 in prone. Derting hit a 588, and Pereira a 587 to round out the top three in smallbore. Lea Horvath landed in the top five, adding a 581 to Ole Miss' team score.
 
The Rebels dominated the scoreboard in air rifle, grabbing the top seven score totals. Horvath led the way with a 598 after finishing perfect in her last 30 shots. Derting continued to excel in air rifle, posting another 597. She has yet to fire below a 595 on the year. Junior Martini Gratz was the other Rebel to score in the 590s. The rest of the Rebel shooters scored above 585.
 
Army compiled a team score of 4616 (2295 in smallbore and 2321 in air rifle). Claudia Sigel led the Black Knights, firing an 1161 aggregate score. Sigel finished with a top-five smallbore total as well.
 
Ole Miss is back on the road again for a match against Memphis. The Rebels face the Tigers on Sunday, November 6, beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
 
Scouting the Opponent
The Tigers, coached by Morgan Phillips in her first season, are 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Memphis is starting the season with six top-15 opponents and four GARC opponents. The Tigers began with three straight losses against No. 6 West Virginia, No. 15 Navy, and No. 1 TCU. Memphis earned its first win over No. 9 Army.
 
The team averages an aggregate score of 4668.25 per match. They are led by senior Angeline Henry in both smallbore and air rifle. Henry averages a smallbore score of 585 and an air rifle score of 594.75. She has been the top performing Tiger in every match this season. Freshman Gabriela Zych is making a huge impact in the lineup as well. Zych is the other player on the roster averaging over 590 in air rifle along with an average score of 574.75 in smallbore.
 
Series History
Ole Miss leads Memphis in the all-time series, 9-2. The Rebels defeated the Tigers last season to extended their win streak to seven matches. The Rebels have never lost to the Tigers at home or on the road
 
Top of Her Game
Kristen Derting, the Oregon native, is shooting at a high level.  The 2022 GARC Combined Second Team honoree has scored her career high aggregate of 1185 in two straight matches against UT Martin and No. 9 Army.
 
Derting also broke her career-high in air rifle with a 598 in the win over UT Martin. She is currently averaging 586 in smallbore, 596.8 in air rifle and 1182.8 aggregate, which would be the highest of any season as a Rebel.
 
Freshman Duo
In their first year at Ole Miss, Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira are making significant impacts in the lineup. They are two of the 36 shooters to score a 590 or above in the nation. Hays, from Maplewood, Minnesota, has been a counter for the team in both smallbore and air rifle all season. She shot 591 and 592 in air rifle during one weekend at Murray, Kentucky. She is tied first on the team for smallbore average and third in air rifle and aggregate average.
 
Pereira, the Chesapeake, Virginia native, is one of Ole Miss' five smallbore counters. She shot a 593 in air rifle against UT Martin and in the same match scored a 590 in smallbore for an 1183 aggregate.
 
High Scoring
Ole Miss rifle has three of the top 15 scores in the nation this season. The Rebels' highest scoring match was in the win over UT Martin with a score of 4728, which is the fifth highest in program history.
 
The Rebels have outscored their opponents 14,167-13,956 in the last three matches.
