Ole Miss Sends Trio to San Diego for ITA National Fall Championships

11/1/2022 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis

Lithén/Junk, Gabrielsen Set to Represent Ole Miss Men’s and Women’s Tennis

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Ole Miss men's and women's tennis teams will be sending three Rebels off to San Diego from Nov. 2-6, as Lillian Gabrielsen, John Hallquist Lithén and Simon Junk will be taking their talents out West after qualifying for the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships.

Gabrielsen had a fiery streak at the ITA Southern Regional Championships hosted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The senior Rebel was the underdog in the competition, as she was the last remaining unranked competitor to reach the tournament semifinals in singles. Gabrielsen finished as runner-up in singles competition to qualify to the 32-player slate at the ITA Fall National Championships.

Finishing as runners-up in doubles at the ITA Southern Regional Championships two weeks ago, Lithén and Junk received automatic bids into the 32-team doubles field in San Diego. The Rebel pairing were one of 26 pairings to earn automatic bids into the bracket, with spots being given to the ITA Regional and ITA All-American champion and runner-up pairings.

Gabrielsen will face off against North Carolina's Carson Tanguilig. Tanguilig received preseason honors with a ranking of No. 28 in the nation, and will enter the ITA National Fall Championships as the No. 5 seed.

Lithén and Junk's first matchup will be against Daniel De Jonge and Tim Zeitvogel of Pepperdine, who enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed in the doubles bracket.
