Rebels Break Four-Match Winning Streak

OXFORD, Miss. – In the final match of the fall slate, No. 1 Ole Miss rifle fell to No. 3 Kentucky, 4741-4723. It breaks a four-match win streak for the Rebels.

It took the reigning national champions shooting its second highest score of the season and a tying a school record in air rifle to take down the Rebels (4-2, 2-2 GARC). Kristen Derting led the team as the second-best performing individual of the field. The senior fired a solid 1184 aggregate. Julianna Hays posted a season and career best 1180 aggregate mark. Ole Miss posted a 2349 in smallbore and 2374 in air rifle.

Kentucky (5-0, 1-0 GARC) and Ole Miss shot the same smallbore score of 2349. The Wildcats had the top two smallbore shooters however the Rebels landed third through sixth in the standings. Derting led the way with a 589. Lea Horvath and Hays followed close behind, shooting a 587. The veterans, Derting and Horvath, both shot perfect in prone. In sixth, Emma Pereira was just one point behind with a 586. Katelyn Tinsley wrapped up the scoring for the counters with a 568. M'Leah Lambdin's 579 was a season-best for her.

Ole Miss fell behind the Wildcats in air rifle as they were outscored 2392-2374. Kentucky placed in the top four for air rifle and the Rebels took the next four places. Derting once again led the Rebels with a 595 and Horvath was right behind her, hitting a 594. The two freshmen, Pereira and Hays, scored career marks with a 594 and a 593. The other two counters, Martina Gratz and Emma O'Neel, scored a 592 and a 591.

Kentucky scored 4741 (2349 in smallbore and 2392 in air rifle) for their second-highest match score on the season. The Wildcats finished with four of the top five overall shooters. Sofia Ceccarello led all shooters with a 1189 aggregate as her 590 in smallbore and 599 in air rifle also at the top of the standings.
