THE COURSE |
Playing at 6,329 yards on Monday and 6,254 yards on Tuesday as a par 72, The Farms Golf Club sits just 20 miles north of downtown San Diego and welcomes numerous PGA and LPGA champions including Phil Mickelson and Annika Sorenstam. When the course was originally designed, PGA Tournament Professional Tommy Jacobs, the youngest player to be invited to The Masters for 58 years, worked with the original golf course architect to create a course layout that would "challenge all aspects of the game." Following in his footsteps, the only golfer in history to be awarded the Player of the Year on all three PGA Tours, Tom Lehman, played an integral part of the course redesign. The club has hosted several prestigious tournaments including the Trans-Mississippi Four-Ball Championship, USGA Amateur Qualifiers, SCGA Championships, NCAA Regionals, and Collegiate Invitationals.
REBELS IN THE POLLS |
Ole Miss enters the Lamkin Invitational ranked as the No. 17 team in the nation according to Golfweek, while also holding the No. 20 spot in the Top 25 Team Rankings by Golfstat. Leading the way individually for the Rebels is Julia Johnson, who enters the weekend ranked No. 33 in the nation by Golfstat. Also holding top 100 rankings for the Rebels are Chiara Tamburlini and Andrea Lignell, who sit ranked No. 48 and No. 97 in the Golfweek/Sagarin NCAA Rankings.
CUNNINGHAM LEADS THE WAY IN ATHENS |
Freshman McKinley Cunningham led the way for the Rebels by earning a share of a 12th place finish at the Lady Bulldog Invitational, shooting a 152 (+8) over two rounds of play. This marked a new career-high finish for Cunningham, as the redshirt-freshman surpassed her previous career-high finish of 18th at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in October of 2021.
LIGNELL, TAMBURLINI CRACK TOP 5 AGAIN |
Following the Rapsodo in the Desert, Rebel tandem Andrea Lignell and Chiara Tamburlini continued their hot 2021-22 season with third and tie for fifth place finishes, respectively. This marked the second consecutive tournament in which Lignell and Tamburlini have wound up in the top 5, as both did so in the team's fall season finale at the East Lake Cup (Lignell - T2nd; Tamburlini - T4th).
JOHNSON INVITED BACK TO AUGUSTA |
For the second consecutive year, senior Julia Johnson has received an invitation to attend the annual Augusta National Women's Amateur tournament, which is set to take place a week before The Masters takes place in Augusta, Ga. later this spring. Johnson, who was invited to the inaugural event in 2020 prior to its cancellation and took part in the 2021 Amateur last spring, will now look to become the first ever Rebel to attend the event multiple times. Johnson currently sits ranked No. 10 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
