Men’s Tennis to Battle Baylor Bears in ITA Nationals Round of 16

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 15 Ole Miss men's tennis (9-1, 0-0 SEC) is set to face No. 2 seed, ITA No. 3 Baylor (11-0, 0-0 Big 12) at 8:30 p.m. CT Friday in the Round of 16 of the ITA National Indoor Team Tournament in Seattle.

Ole Miss returns to team tournament competition on Friday night to face the tournament's No. 2 seed, the Baylor Bears. The match is set to take place inside the Seattle Tennis Club. The semifinals and championship rounds will take place inside the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Ohio State is the No. 1 overall seed in the draw.

Rebels for Revenge

Ole Miss fell to ITA No. 1 Baylor in the 2021 NCAA Team Tournament Sweet 16, 4-1, in Orlando. Finn Reynolds earned the sole victory for the Rebels, defeating Baylor's No. 11 Matias Soto at No. 2 singles in straight sets. The Rebels and Bears have identical seeds in this years' indoor tournament.

Nine out of 10

The Rebels have won nine out of 10 matches to begin the 2022 season. Ole Miss has earned six out of nine victories via sweeping their opponents. Most recently, the Rebels defeated North Alabama at home twice, 4-0, 4-0, on Feb. 11. Ole Miss is 1-1 versus ranked opponents so far this year.

The Good Ole Boys

The Rebels are winning approximately 70 percent of all individual matches so far this season (.708 in singles and .696 in doubles). Ole Miss has performed exceptionally in dual singles matches, earning a 39-7 record thus far this season. Jakob Cadonau, Jan Soren Hain, Simon Junk and Nikola Slavic are all undefeated in singles duals at a combined record of 22-0.

Scouting the Bears

Baylor has started the 2022 season 11-0 and is 2-0 versus top-10 opponents defeating both No. 9 Texas and No. 7 Virginia.

Tadeas Paroulek leads the Bears in the ITA leaderboards, ranked at No. 39 individually. He is followed by Sven Lah at No. 123. Lah also ranks No. 12 in doubles partnered alongside Jake Finn Bass.

Up Next

An Ole Miss victory would pit the Rebels against either No. 7 seed Kentucky or No. 10 USC (Southern California) at 8:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. A Rebels loss puts them in the Consolation Draw, with a match time of 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. Ole Miss will play at least two matches this weekend.
