Men’s Tennis 10-3, Women’s Tennis 6-2 Heading into SEC Competition
TEMPE, Ariz. – Ole Miss men's tennis received the No. 14 ranking with 37.736 points and women's tennis placed No. 46 with 13.667 points in the latest ITA Team Rankings released on Wednesday.
The ITA Team Rankings feature the top-75 programs in the nation as determined by a computerized scoring system. The maximum value a team can receive in the rankings is 100 ranking points.
Ole Miss men's tennis fell three spots in the computerized rankings after not competing in any matches last week. The Rebels had a week off of competition between the ITA National Indoor Championships and the start of SEC conference duals. Ole Miss earned a 4-2 victory versus No. 12 Texas A&M in a non-conference match in the Rebels' last event on Feb. 20 in Seattle.
SEC matches begin this weekend for both men's and women's tennis. Men's tennis opens the in-conference portion of the season with a daunting task, hosting No. 2 Tennessee at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The Volunteers were surmounted this week at the No. 1 spot by TCU. The Rebels fell to the Horned Frogs in a tight match last month on Feb. 6.
In addition to match coverage provided by Ole Miss Athletics this season, a special cross-conference broadcast will be displayed for Friday SEC matches on Cracked Racquets' webpage.
Ole Miss women's tennis fell 12 positions on the team leaderboard despite earning three sweeps last weekend. The Rebels defeated Tennessee State 7-0 and 4-0 on Friday and won 7-0 versus Louisiana Monroe on Sunday. The Rebels received 13.667 points through the ITA's computerized system and are less than 10 points away from the ITA top-25.
Women's tennis opens the SEC season on the road facing two ranked opponents, No. 36 Georgia on Friday and No. 23 Tennessee on Sunday. The Rebels won their sole match versus a ranked opponent this season, defeating No. 14 Michigan 4-1 on Jan. 29 in Atlanta (ITA Kickoff Weekend).
