Rebels Men’s Tennis Sweeps Doubles, Defeated 4-3 by No. 12 Kentucky

Lukas Engelhardt Earns Win at No. 1 Doubles, Ranked Win at No. 4 Singles
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 39 Ole Miss men's tennis (11-8, 1-5 SEC) started off strong versus No. 12 Kentucky (14-4, 5-1 SEC), winning doubles 2-0, but eventually falling 4-3 to the Wildcats on Sunday.
Ole Miss fought to the end on Sunday, winning the final two matches in a 4-3 defeat to Kentucky. The Rebels started the match by winning the doubles point, but were unable to pick-up a third match in singles to topple the higher-ranked Wildcats. The Rebels have now fallen in four straight matches versus Kentucky dating back to 2018.
The Rebels got ahead early, 1-0 overall, by sweeping doubles, 2-0. No. 3 Doubles Nikola Slavic and John Hallquist Lithén made quick work of Kentucky's Gabriel Diallo and Liam Draxl, 6-1, to win the first match of the day. No. 12 Finn Reynolds and Lukas Engelhardt then clinched the doubles point by defeating Francois Msitelli and Millen Hurrion 6-4. Jan Soren Hain and Simon Junk led 6-5 over Ketucky's JJ Mercer and Joshua Lapadat at the time of the doubles stoppage.
Kentucky reversed course in singles, winning five of six first sets. The Wildcats carried on to win four singles matches in succession via straight sets at the No. 3, No. 5, No. 1 and No. 2 Singles positions. No. 114 Hurrion clinched the victory for the Wildcats by defeating No. 110 Reynolds 6-3, 7-5, to put Kentucky up 4-1.
Ole Miss clawed the final two courts away from the Wildcats, going down with a fight. The Rebels won both remaining matches in third-set 10-point tiebreaks. Engelhardt won first, taking down No. 61 Muitelli 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (2). Hain closed things out at No. 6 Singles, winning 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (6) over Alexandre LeBlanc. Ole Miss fell to Kentucky 4-3.
Up Next: The Rebels have a key weekend on taps to begin April, hosting Georgia on Friday and playing at Mississippi State next Sunday.
