3/5/2022 | Women's Golf

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Ole Miss women's golf team wrapped up their opening day at the Gators Invitational in the hunt for hardware, as the Rebels will enter Sunday's final round of play tied for second on the team leaderboard with a two-round score of 570 (+10).

Ole Miss currently ranks second in the field in total birdies with 25, while also ranking third in par-4 (+11) and par-5 (E) scoring in the field.

"The team played solid golf today and put themselves in contention going into our final round," head coach Kory Henkes said. "It was a total team effort which is always great to see."

Putting together the best performance for the Rebels over the opening two rounds of play was Andrea Lignell, as the junior capped off her day tied for third individually, shooting rounds of 69 (-1) and 70 (E) to kick off her tournament. Her day would end with her leading the field in par-5 scoring (-3), while netting a total of five birdies and a team-high 27 pars on the day.

Also wrapping up the day in the top 10 for Ole Miss was Chiara Tamburlini, as the St. Gallen, Switzerland, native's day would end with a two-round score of 141 (+1) to slot her into a tie for sixth. Tamburlini's day would end with seven total birdies, ranking tied for second in the field and first for the Rebels alongside teammate Natacha Host Husted.

Despite opening round struggles, freshman Host Husted had a blistering second round for the Rebels, shooting a 67 (-3) to leap up into a tie for 19th heading into Sunday's final round of play. Host Husted logged a total of seven birdies on the day, five of which would come in her second round, marking the second-most birdies in the field alongside Tamburlini.

Senior Julia Johnson's opening day in Gainesville would conclude with her sitting tied for 30th on the individual leaderboard, logging rounds of 70 (E) and 76 (+6) in the process. Johnson would tally both of her birdies on the day in her opening round of play.

Rounding out the lineup for the Rebels was freshman Maddie May, who ended her day with a two-round score of 154 (+14) to sit tied for 65th. This marks May's first team event appearance with the Rebels.
