No. 45 Rebels Suffer Close Defeat at Home on Senior Day

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 45 Ole Miss Women's Tennis (10-9, 4-7 SEC) narrowly lost, 4-3, to No. 35 Arkansas (14-7, 6-4 SEC) at home on Sunday.
 
The Rebels swept the doubles point, 2-0, but were unable to defeat the higher-ranked Razorbacks in a match spanning over three hours. Ole Miss remained over .500 this season, sitting at 10-9 overall after the defeat in the final home match of 2022.
 
Ole Miss got off to a hot start at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Sunday, grabbing an early 1-0 lead over the Razorbacks. The Rebels won both doubles matches, and led in the match to go unfinished as well on Court No. 1. Rachel Krzyzak and Lillian Gabrielsen won first, defeating Arkansas' Kelly Keller and Indianna Spink 6-4 at No. 3 Doubles. The Rebels then clinched the opening point at No. 2 doubles as Kelsey Mize and Ludmila Kareisová defeated Lenka Stara and Laura Rijkers, 6-3. The Rebels took a 1-0 overall match lead.

The Rebels were unable to turn doubles success into singles victories, winning only two of the required three individual matches to win in the second-leg of the match on Sunday. Arkansas tied things up early as Tatum Rice defeated Ole Miss senior No. 49 Sabina Machalova in two sets at No. 1 singles.
 
Ole Miss then took a 2-1 match lead by taking No. 3 singles. Krzyzak defeated Stara in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Krzyzak improved to 16-10 overall in singles and 11-5 in duals this season. She has won three straight singles matches. Fellow freshman Kareisová extended the Ole Miss lead to 3-1 by taking No. 3 singles. She defeated Spink 7-5, 6-2, putting the Rebels one match away from victory.
 
Arkansas ensued to win the final three singles matches, all in straight sets. Keller won on Court No. 2 first, followed by Morgan Cross on Court No. 5 over Gabrielsen and Rijkers on Court No. 6 versus Elysia Pool.
 
The Rebels celebrated the career of senior captain Machalova on Sunday
