Ten-Run Third Inning Powers Ole Miss To Victory

Rebels Run Rule Lady Techsters, 10-0
OXFORD, Miss. – A massive 10-run third inning helped Ole Miss Softball surge past Louisiana Tech 10-0 in its final home midweek contest Tuesday night at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. With the victory, Ole Miss notched its seventh consecutive 30-win season.
The Rebels (30-14, 5-10 SEC) continued to swing the bats well, tallying 13 hits on the night, including a pair of home runs by Lexie Brady and Abbey Latham. Bre Roper also had a perfect night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a pair of singles and a triple. Her infield single in the first inning was the 200th hit of her collegiate career.
In the circle, Savannah Diederich and Brooke Vestal combined on the one-hit shutout of the Lady Techsters (29-17, 9-6 C-USA). It marked the Rebels' 11th shutout of the 2022 season. Diederich was sharp, recording five of the first seven outs via strikeout. She did surrender the only hit of the night, a leadoff double in the top of the second.
After stranding a pair of base runners in each of the first two innings, the Rebel bats got hot as Ole Miss registered eight straight hits and scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third. Brady started the scoring with a solo home run, the first of her career. Tate Whitley and Roper turned it over at the top of the order with back-to-back singles to force a pitching change. That brought Latham to the dish with a pair of runners on. The senior demolished the third pitch she saw, launching a no-doubter over the wall in left-center.
Catelyn Riley continued the rally with a line drive double, and Sydney Gutierrez singled up the middle to put runners on the corners, still with one out. Paige Smith and Mikalya Allee drove in runs with a single and double, respectively, to bring Brady back to the plate.
Batting around in the inning, Brady smoked a two-run single to left, making it an 8-0 contest. Whitley picked up her second hit of the night just before Roper cleared the bases with her first triple of the season.
With double-digits in the scoring column, Ole Miss turned to Vestal in the circle to close out the game. She threw the final 2.0 innings, using a nifty double play by Keila Kamoku and Gutierrez on a lineout to retire the side in the fourth and a pair of groundouts and a strikeout to cap off the run-rule victory in the fifth.
Ole Miss returns to SEC play this weekend, traveling to South Carolina for a three-game series with the Gamecocks.
