Women’s Track & Field No. 18 in Week Five USTFCCCA Outdoor Rankings
4/25/2022 | Track and Field
Best for Rebel Women Outdoors Since Week Six of 2017 (No. 16)
NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss women's track & field moved up four spots to No. 18 in the Week Five outdoor edition of the USTFCCCA National Rating Index released on Monday.
This is best outdoor ranking for the Ole Miss women since Week Six of the 2017 season (No. 16) and their third appearance this outdoor season after opening at No. 19 and returning to the national top-25 last week at No. 22. This is the 35th total appearance for the Ole Miss women in the national rankings outdoors since they began in 2008. Under head coach Connie Price-Smith, the Rebel women have appeared 26 times outdoors since 2016, with their best being a No. 15 slot in Week Two of the 2017 season.
Indoors, the Ole Miss women soared to a program-record No. 7 three different times before recording the best NCAA finish in combined program history in a tie for sixth place at the indoor national meet.
Ole Miss is receiving 89.09 of its total 99.86 points in the Week Five Index from just four student-athletes: Sintayehu Vissa in the 800-meter at 2:01.06 (No. 3, 28.56 points), Jalani Davis in the shot put at 17.73m/58-2 (No. 5, 23.62 points), Shey Taiwo in the hammer at 69.24m/227-02 (No. 6, 21.58 points) and Lyndsey Reed in the pole vault at 4.41m/14-05.50 (No. 9, 15.33 points).
The USTFCCCA's National Rating Index is a computer rating system that uses an algorithm that emphasizes individual performances, assigning a point value to each individual mark that contributes to a team total to assess its national ranking.
Ole Miss track & field will split for three destinations this upcoming weekend, with a handful of distance runners heading to Mississippi State's Maroon & White Invite (April 29-30), several distance relays trekking to Philadelphia for the 126th running of the Penn Relays (April 28-30), and the remainder of the Rebel squad heading to Baton Rouge for the LSU Invitational (April 30).
