Softball Downs Memphis 11-0 in Final Midweek

Rebels Blast Three Home Runs in Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Scoring in every inning, Ole Miss softball won its fifth straight, taking down Memphis 11-0 in a midweek clash Tuesday night at the Tiger Softball Complex.

Paige Smith, Bre Roper and Keila Kamoku all homered all Ole Miss (34-14, 8-10 SEC) scored 11 runs on 11 hits. In the circle, four Rebels combined to throw the team's 13th shutout of the season.

Ole Miss came out swinging to start the game, hanging a three-spot in the first inning. Abbey Latham and Sydney Gutierrez singled to bring Smith to the plate with two outs. She jumped on the first pitch she saw, blasting a three-run shot over the scoreboard in right center.

The Rebels added another run in the second after Keila Kamoku continued her hot hitting at the plate. She led off the inning with a double and came around to score two batters later on an RBI single from Tate Whitley.

Memphis put the leadoff runner on in each of the first two innings against Catelyn Riley. However, the defense held strong, stranding a pair in the first and leaving the bases loaded in the second.

Roper and Ole Miss continued to utilize the long ball in the third. Gutierrez worked a walk to start the frame and came around to score as Roper hit a laser over the wall in right for her fourth home run of the year.

Aynslie Furbush entered in relief in the third, striking out a pair of Tigers to get out of the inning. She then led off the fourth as a pinch hitter with a base hit to center. Lexie Brady retook her spot on first base and managed to swipe second on a failed pickoff attempt. Latham then drove Brady in for her 40th RBI of the season, making it 7-0.

Brooke Vestal handled the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth, turning things back over to the offense. Looking to put the run rule into effect, Smith, Roper and Mikayla Allee loaded the bases for Kamoku, who belted a grand slam for her first collegiate home run.

Landyn Bruce tallied the final three outs in the bottom half of the fifth to secure the Rebels' fifth consecutive victory and second straight shutout.

Ole Miss now turns its attention to Tennessee with senior weekend in Oxford. The Rebels welcome the No. 12 ranked Volunteers for a Saturday to Monday series April 30 through May 2.
