Rebels No. 1 Singles Player Improves by Seven Positions this Week
TEMPE, Ariz. – Ole Miss Men's Tennis (16-12, 4-8 SEC) moved back one spot this week in the ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point. The Rebels feature two top-25 individual rankings this week with Nikola Slavic at No. 17 in Singles and Finn Reynolds and Lukas Engelhardt No. 25 in Doubles as released on Wednesday.
The Rebels moved down in the ITA Team Rankings by a miniscule margin this week from No. 31 to No. 32 in the nation. The Rebels fell in their sole match last week to No. 30 Auburn by the slimmest of margins, 4-3, in the second round of the SEC Championships. The match between Ole Miss and Auburn came down to a deciding third-set tiebreak.
Slavic earned a rank win versus Auburn, defeating No. 28 Tyler Stice in three sets. This week, he improved by seven ranks in the ITA Singles leaderboard up to a career-high No. 17 ranking. Slavic previously ranked as high as No. 18 previously this season (twice). Individually, Slavic sets his sights on the 64-person NCAA Singles Championships (field to be released next Tuesday, May 3).
No. 1 Ole Miss Doubles pairing Reynolds and Engelhardt remained in the ITA top-25, ranked No. 25 in the country this week. The two Rebels are the seventh-highest ranked team in the SEC conference. Reynolds and Engelhardt aim to earn a selection into the 32-team NCAA Doubles Championships (field to be released next Tuesday, May 3).
