Sommer Daniel and Meauna Booth Join Rebels
OXFORD, Miss. – Head coach Kayla Banwarth announced the newest additions to her roster for the 2022 season, adding transfer setter/defensive specialist Sommer Daniel from Utah and middle blocker Meauna Booth from Long Beach State.
"I'm so excited to be welcoming Sommer and Meauna to our family. Both are highly driven, talented athletes that will impact our program immediately. They will absolutely elevate the level of volleyball played in our gym as well as strengthen our team culture every day."
In two years with the Utes, Daniels appeared in 17 matches. Last season, she totaled nine assists, four of which came against Oregon State, and one dig. As a freshman, she started in a pair of matches, recording a season-high eight digs and two service aces against Stanford and seven digs and a service ace in the second match at Washington.
A Tipton, Iowa, native, Daniel played for Adrenaline Volleyball Academy and Tipton High School. At Tipton, she became the only Iowa player to record 1,000-plus kills, digs and assists and was named first-team all-state after her junior and senior seasons and 3A Player of the Year as a junior. On her club team, she was named to the USA National All-Tournament Team after the 2017 and 2018 tournaments, where the team finished fifth and second.
Booth comes to Oxford as a redshirt freshman after sitting out a year at Long Beach State. In high school, she broke the Blue Springs South High School record for most blocks in her junior season. A two-time First Team All-Conference and two-time All-District selection, she was named to the PrepVolleyball Top 2020 Watch List after earning All-State, All-Tournament Team, and Newcomer of the Year throughout her prep career.
Daniel and Booth are set to join the Rebels along with six incoming freshmen this fall.
