Rebels’ Head Coach Honored for Legendary Career
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Ole Miss rifle head coach Marsha Beasley was announced as one of the newest members of the West Virginia University Sports Hall of Fame, joining seven other honorees in the 2022 class.
Beasley served as West Virginia's head coach for 16 seasons from 1990 and 2006, leading the Mountaineers to eight NCAA National Championships and 11 top-3 finishes to go along with nine undefeated seasons. Under her watch, she guided 28 student-athletes to 119 All-American honors, while coaching eight individual national champions and four Olympians. At WVU she compiled a 153-23 record and led her squads to three Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) tournament titles and five regular-season titles.
A top coach in the sport, Beasley earned numerous coaching awards and honors, including 1997 National Coach of the Year for shooting by the United States Olympic Committee and the 1993 National Rifle Association Coach of the Year.
In 2016, she joined Ole Miss as the head coach, rebuilding the program and turning it into a mainstay in the sport. Beasley ended a 15-year drought, leading the Rebels to a third place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championship and a fourth place finish this past season. She also has helped Ole Miss claim a share of back-to-back GARC regular season titles.
During her time in Oxford, Beasley has guided seven Rebels to All-American honors, 13 to All-GARC honors and one to an Olympic berth in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. As a coach, she was voted Coach of the year by her peers in 2017 and 2021.
In addition to competing and coaching, Beasley has been a leader in the sport. She drafted the bylaws to create the Mid-America Rifle Conference (now GARC) and was a staff member at the then national governing body of shooting (the NRA) and the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games. She also served 17 years on the Board of the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Beasley is currently serving as a member of the NCAA Rifle Committee.
Beasley is a graduate of East Tennessee State and later earned a master's degree in sport management at WVU. She competed in smallbore and air rifle while in college and later with the U.S. National Team. In her professional career, she was a two-time international Gold medalist and set 65 national records and won eight national championships.
Beasley will be honored along with the other members of the hall of fame class at the induction ceremony on Saturday, September 17, at the WVU vs. Towson football game.
