Rebel Attackers Poised For Offensive Success

OXFORD, Miss. โ€“ย With 12 players returning from last season's NCAA Tournament appearance, the Rebels are ready to run it back. As Ole Miss volleyball prepares for the first serve of 2022 on Friday, OleMissSports.com takes a look at the Rebels' outside hitters.

Ole Miss brings back 71.7 percent of kills from a season ago, a year in which the Rebels set the single-season program record .255 attacking percentage. Leading the talented position group is Ole Miss' top returning attacker Anna Bair, who is back for her senior season. Bair looks to build on her AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention laurels from a year ago, when she racked up a team-high 369 kills, including 22 matches with double-digit kills.

Junior Samantha Schnitta also brings veteran experience. The right-side hitter started 17 matches and appeared in 18 total before missing the rest of 2021 with an injury. One of the Rebels' top offensive weapons, Schnitta was one of five on the team to record 100-plus kills, finishing with 133, including double-digit kills in six matches.

Katie Corelli looks to pick up right where she left off after a strong freshman campaign a year ago. The Kaysville, Utah, native 11 matches and appeared in 17 total in 2021. She Tallied 69 kills and 25 blocks on the season, including a career-best .462 attacking percentage against Alabama in the regular-season finale. Julia Dyess is also back for her sophomore season with the Rebels. Dyess appeared in 12 matches with four starts before suffering a season-ending injury. On the court, she recorded 46 kills, 28 digs and three blocks. Former Chattanooga transfer Hayden McGee will contribute as well, after missing all of last season with an achilles injury.

Three freshmen also look factor into the mix for Ole Miss. Shayla Meyer joins the Rebels from Superior, Nebraska, where she racked up over 1,700 career kills, including a team-best 475 as a junior. Meyer was named first team All-Conference three years in a row, found a spot on the C-2 Volleyball All-State first team in 2020 and rounded out her high school career with 2021 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Vivian Miller is also ready for her first season in a Rebel uniform. Miller was a highly touted recruit out of Jupiter, Florida, being named to the Prep Volleyball Top-100, AVCA Phenom List, AVCA Best and Brightest First Team and 2021 AVCA Second Team All-American honors. At Jupiter High School, she totaled 500 kills in 154 sets played.

Emma Schwieger caps off the freshmen talent at outside hitter. The Bishop Moore Catholic High School grad was tabbed as the No. 5 player and the No. 1 right side in Florida for the class of 2022 and was listed as one of Prep Volleyball's 2022 players to watch. The former Central Florida 4A Player of the Year tallied 621 kills and 469 digs over the course of her career with the Hornets.

First serve of the 2022 season officially takes place on August 26 at 4 p.m. as the Rebels open the Ole Miss Invitational, hosting No. 9 Georgia Tech. The match will be available to stream on SECN+.
