Rifle Grabs First Win of the Season

Freshman Diamond Impressed with a 594 in Air Rifle
MURRAY, Ky. – Ole Miss rifle got the season off on the right foot with a win over Jacksonville State in Murray, Ky. The Rebels outscored the Gamecocks 4714-4675, helped by a strong air rifle performance.
Ole Miss (1-0) took a massive lead of 20 points in smallbore that would hold for the rest of the match. The Rebels' 2376 air rifle score pushed them farther from Jacksonville State. Led by Lea Horvath, Ole Miss secured the top-four aggregate scores of the match.
Horvath began strong with the second-highest smallbore score of 588, then led the team with a 597 air rifle score for a combined 1185 aggregate score. Emma Pereira finished with an 1179, taking second in the field. M'Leah Lambdin and Juliana Hays took third and fourth.
Four Rebels hit marks higher than 580, with Hays as the top performer in smallbore, firing a 589. In her first collegiate match, Regan Diamond earned a spot as a counter. The freshman finished with a 577, which tied for seventh for smallbore.
The Rebels crushed air rifle, with five athletes scoring higher than 590 and placing seven in the top 10. Horvath led everyone with a 597, followed by Derting's 596 and Pereira's 595. Diamond impressed, firing a 594 in her Rebel air rifle debut.
Jacksonville State was led by Sam Burrow and Lars Liileng, both scoring 1177. Lilleng also finished in the top three in smallbore with a 585. Burrow landed in the top five, scoring a 595 in air rifle.
Ole Miss stays in Murray for a match against No. 9 Murray State on Saturday. The match starts at 9 a.m. CT.
