Rifle Secures Second Victory of the Weekend

Three Rebels Score Perfect in Prone
MURRAY, Ky. – A stellar performance in smallbore for the second straight day helped Ole Miss defeat No. 9 Murray State, 4715-4702. Freshman Regan Diamond earned her first match as an air rifle counter while also still a counter in smallbore. Diamond tied with Kristen Derting as the top Rebels individual.
Four of the top five aggregate scorers wore navy and red. Derting and Diamond both shot an 1180 to tie for second overall. Lea Horvath and Emma Pereira finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ole Miss (2-0) fired 2343 in smallbore, which is just outside the top-10 all-time for the program. The smallbore score was helped by three Rebels hitting a perfect 200 in prone shots. Derting, Horvath, and Pereira all hit scores higher than 580, guided by their prone success. Derting led both teams, shooting a 589. Diamond improved on her first match smallbore score by 10 points, notching a 587.
The Rebels were heading into air rifle with a 12-point lead over the Racers. All five counters for the Rebels shot a 590 or higher for a 2372 total. Horvath paced the field, scorching a 597 in back-to-back matches. In her first match as an air rifle counter, Diamond answered the call by cruising to a 593. The Rebels outscored the Racers in the discipline by one point, holding onto the victory.
Murray State's Scott Patterson bested everyone, firing an 1182 aggregate score. Patterson finished second in both disciplines by hitting a 587 in smallbore and 595 in air rifle.
Ole Miss hosts their first home match on Saturday, October 21, against conference foe West Virginia.
