Rifle Falls to No. 4 Georgia Southern

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle drops match to No. 4 Georgia Southern, 4724-4716. Despite the loss, the Rebels tied the program's fifth-highest air rifle score.

Ole Miss (4-3, 1-2 GARC) finished with three individuals in the top-five aggregate scoring. The sophomores, Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira led the Rebels with an 1180 combined score, tying for third place overall. Lea Horvath placed in fifth, hitting an 1178 aggregate.

Pereira and Hays also landed in the top-five for smallbore. Pereira tied for second with a 587, helped by shooting perfect in her 20 prone shots. Hays followed close behind, shooting a 585 for fourth place. The Rebels fell back by eight points, heading into air rifle.

The Navy and Red were outstanding in air rifle, firing a 2381, tying the program's fifth-highest air rifle score. Horvath tied for first place in the match, leading the Rebels with her third 597 of the season. Right behind Horvath, senior Kristen Derting shot the second-highest air rifle score, 596. Hays was right below Derting, shooting a 595. It marks the second time the Maplewood, Minnesota native has surpassed her personal record in the last three matches.

Gretchen Schleinkofer shot her match a day early on Friday. The freshman broke her best air rifle career score with a 588. 

Ole Miss wrapped up their fall season and will take a break before returning to the range on January 20 against Akron on the road.
