11/22/2023 | Volleyball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Rounding out its season on the road, Ole Miss volleyball fell to Texas A&M in straight sets on Wednesday night inside Reed Arena.
The match marked the end of seniors Anna Bair and Maggie Miller's collegiate career. The two super seniors made the decision to come back and utilize their fifth year of eligibility, joining their teammates and coaches for one more season in a Rebel uniform. Bair earned the start at outside hitter, finishing with a kill and two blocks. Miller played in all three sets, tallying five digs and a pair of assists.
Julia Dyess led all attackers in the match with 13 kills, her third straight match in double-figures. Sasha Ratliff followed with seven kills and four blocks. Her middle blocker counterpart, Payton Brgoch, racked up five blocks in the match, passing Ty Laporte (334) for the fifth-most blocks in the rally scoring era in program history.
After back-to-back blocks early by Brgoch, the Rebels opened up a 5-0 scoring run, taking an 8-4 lead out of the gate. However, Texas A&M responded with an 11-1 run of its own, giving the Aggies a five-point advantage at the media timeout. Errors proved costly as Ole Miss couldn't climb back into the set, and A&M went on to win 25-15.
Looking to bounce back, Ole Miss hung close with the Aggies in the second. Both teams went back and forth, with Texas A&M holding a slight two-point edge at the media break. The Rebels tried to close the gap, but the Aggies maintained their cushion to take the second set, 25-22.
Still battling, Ole Miss made things difficult for Texas A&M in the third set, which featured 12 ties and seven lead changes. The Rebels had the upper hand early, reaching 15 and 20 points first, but Texas A&M hung within striking distance and closed strong. The Aggies grabbed a late lead and scored the final three points of the set to take the match in three sets.
