2024 Ole Miss Football Schedule Release: Home Preview
12/10/2023 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. – The Southeastern Conference will look a lot different in 2024 when Texas and Oklahoma join the fun, and Ole Miss football's league schedule will look a lot different as well when it is revealed in full this week.
The SEC will reveal the conference's 2024 football schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN and SEC Network.
The Rebels' 2024 opponents were announced in June, revealing some intriguing foes making their way to Oxford. Before all SEC dates are unveiled, let's take a closer look at which teams are coming to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in 2024.
Georgia
Ole Miss and Georgia will meet for the 48th time, and the Bulldogs will make their 17th trip to Oxford when the squads meet in 2024. The Rebels fell to the two-time defending national champions in Athens earlier this season as UGA took a 33-13-1 lead on the field in the all-time series. Ole Miss ran past Georgia 45-14 in its last trip to the Vaught in 2016.
Georgia won't be defending a national title in next season's meeting. The Bulldogs fell to Alabama in the SEC title game to finish 12-1 and just out of the College Football Playoff. No. 6 UGA will close its season against No. 5 Florida State in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.
Kentucky
Ole Miss has seen a good bit of the Kentucky Wildcats on the football field in recent years. Despite being in different divisions, the pair has met three times in the last seven years and twice in the Lane Kiffin era, with the Rebels winning all three recent matchups. Ole Miss has dominated the rivalry traditionally with a 28-14-1 record on the field, including an 8-2 mark in Oxford.
Kentucky was solid once again in 2023, wrapping up its regular season at 7-5 after an upset win over in-state rival and then-No. 9 Louisville. The Wildcats have had a winning record in seven of the last eight years. They'll cap their year with an intriguing Gator Bowl matchup against No. 22 Clemson on Dec. 29.
Mississippi State
Ole Miss and Mississippi State's rivalry will be continued when the Bulldogs come to Oxford in 2024. The Rebels will look to retain the Egg Bowl once again after having beaten MSU, 17-7, in Starkville on Thanksgiving Day this season. The in-state rivals have played 120 times with Ole Miss holding a 65-49-6 advantage all-time on the field.
MSU finished 5-7 on the season, falling just shy of bowl eligibility after the Egg Bowl defeat in the season finale. After finishing 1-7 in SEC play, the Bulldogs parted ways with their head coach and hired a familiar face in former Rebel offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. The 2024 Egg Bowl will feature the return of Lebby to Oxford to face one of his mentors in Kiffin.
Oklahoma
Ole Miss has met Oklahoma in a few sports recently—both women's basketball over the past two seasons, as well as baseball in the 2022 College World Series—but when the Sooners come to Oxford for the first time as an SEC member, it'll be their first time seeing the Rebels on the gridiron since 1999. It will be OU's first ever trip to Oxford, and only the second matchup all-time between the Rebels and Sooners alongside a 27-25 Ole Miss win in the 1999 Independence Bowl.
The Sooners have had a strong 2023 campaign, finishing the regular season at 10-2 and one spot behind the Rebels at No. 12 in the CFP rankings. OU was the only team to beat fellow SEC newbie and CFP No. 3 Texas in the 2023 regular season. Oklahoma will close the campaign with a Dec. 28 date with No. 14 Arizona in the Alamo Bowl.
