2024 Ole Miss Football Schedule Release: Road Preview

12/11/2023 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. – The Southeastern Conference will look a lot different in 2024 when Texas and Oklahoma join the fun, and Ole Miss football's league schedule will look a lot different as well when it is revealed in full this week.

The SEC will reveal the conference's 2024 football schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN and SEC Network.

The Rebels' 2024 opponents were announced in June, revealing some intriguing road trips on the docket. Before all SEC dates are unveiled, let's take a closer look at where Ole Miss will venture on the road next year.

Arkansas
Ole Miss will meet Arkansas for the 43rd consecutive time in 2024, having played every season since 1981. It will be the 71st meeting overall between the Rebels and Razorbacks, with Arkansas holding a 37-32-1 edge on the field in the all-time series. Ole Miss won the latest iteration, 27-20, this year in Oxford. It was the fifth consecutive win by the home team in the rivalry, a spell the Rebels will look to snap next year.

Arkansas finished 4-8 in this season and just 1-7 in SEC play, but it was a year that could've very easily gone very differently. Five of the Hogs' losses came by just one possession, including four of their SEC defeats. The Razorbacks nearly beat three ranked teams on the road, falling 34-31 to LSU, 27-20 to Ole Miss and 24-21 to Alabama.

Florida
The first game of the Lane Kiffin era came against Florida. Ole Miss was outmatched against Kyle Trask, Kyle Pitts and the No. 5 Gators that day in Oxford, but in a 51-35 shootout, the Rebels showed promise of the success that has since followed. That was the 25th meeting all-time between the Gators and Rebels and it tied the series at 12-12-1. While relatively short, the Ole Miss-Florida rivalry does come with an iconic moment: Tim Tebow made his infamous speech after the 2008 Rebels upset the Gators in Gainesville, their only hiccup on a national title run. Ole Miss has been to The Swamp once since: a 38-10 defeat in 2015.

Florida finished the 2023 season at 5-7, and it was a tale of two halves of the season. The Gators picked up a marquee win over Tennessee early in the year and sat at 5-2 with only losses at No. 11 Utah and Kentucky. However, a 43-20 defeat in Jacksonville against Georgia sparked a five-game losing streak, including four against ranked teams, to close it out.

LSU
Ole Miss will head to Baton Rouge for its 113th meeting all-time with LSU, continuing its second-most played rivalry behind in-state foe Mississippi State. The Tigers hold a 65-43-4 record on the field in the all-time series, including a 43-24-1 mark in the Red Stick. Ole Miss last won in Baton Rouge in 2008. The Rebels will look for their second straight win in the series after topping LSU in a 55-49 thriller in Oxford this year.

LSU will have to replace the Heisman Trophy winner, Jayden Daniels, at quarterback. Daniels led the Tigers to a 9-3 mark, their only losses coming to No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Florida State and No. 11 Ole Miss. Ranked No. 13 heading into bowl season, LSU was one of just two teams to defeat NY6 qualifier Missouri this season. The Tigers will close their campaign on New Year's Day in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Wisconsin.

South Carolina
Ole Miss and South Carolina will be meeting for just the 18th time when the Rebels hear Sandstorm at Williams-Brice Stadium in 2024. The two SEC foes last met in 2020 in Oxford, where Ole Miss won a 59-42 shootout to take a 9-8 lead in the all-time series. The series is tied 4-4 in Columbia. Ole Miss last went to South Carolina in 2009, falling 16-10. Its last win in Columbia was in 2004.

South Carolina won three out of its last four games and nearly upset in-state rival Clemson in the season finale, but it wasn't enough to overcome a four-game midseason losing streak as the Gamecocks fell short of bowl eligibility at 5-7. South Carolina had a tough schedule early, featuring three ranked opponents in the first five games and road trips to Georgia and Tennessee. The Gamecocks will have a new signal-caller in 2024 after Spencer Rattler declared for the NFL Draft.
