Rifle Wins Another Close Match to Memphis, 4725-4721

Lambdin Shatters Career-Highs in Smallbore and Aggregate Score
OXFORD, Miss – Ole Miss rifle win a close match against No. 12 Memphis, 4725-4721. The Rebels take down the Tigers for the second time this season.
Ole Miss (8-2, 5-2 GARC) did just enough in air rifle to overcome No. 12 Memphis (4-8, 2-6 GARC). The Rebels and Tigers were even after smallbore, both shot a 2341. It was the Rebels' 2384 air rifle score compared to the Tigers' 2380 that made the difference.
The navy and red had four of the top five performing shooters in the match. In no surprise, Lea Horvath topped the list with a 1186 aggregate score. When you have Horvath in first that means Kristen Derting is second. The senior fired a 1181 aggregate. M'Leah Lambdin, a non-counter, smashed her career-high aggregate score to finish fourth overall. Lambdin hit a 1180 which is six points higher than her previous mark. Emma Pereira wrapped up the top-5 with a 1180 as well.
Two shooters shot higher than a 590 and both shoot for the Rebels. Horvath had the best smallbore score of 592. In second, Lambdin past her smallbore career-high by seven points with a 590. Pereira and Derting also landed in the top-5, scoring a 588 and 585. Ole Miss and Memphis shot a 2341 however Ole Miss edged Memphis with three more X-shots.
The Rebels having three of the top-five air rifle scores put them over the top. At the very top, Claire O'Neel fired a season-high 598, which is one off her career-high. O'Neel has shot her three highest air rifle scores of the season the last three matches. Derting and Martina Gratz placed third and fourth, both hit a 596.
Memphis had its best performance of the season with an aggreagate match score of 4721. That score was enough to push their average over 4700 on the season, making them the 12th school to do so. The Tigers tied their season-high smallbore score of 2341 and fired their best air rifle score. Gabriela Zych finished second overall with a 1184 aggregate score. Zych shot a 588 in smallbore, which was third-best, and a 596 in air rifle, which was the second highest.
Ole Miss will see No. 12 Memphis again for the NCAA Qualifiers on Saturdaym February 18, starting at 8 a.m.
