On the Line
  • Half of NCAA qualification is determined by the top-three scores fired at three separate locations averaged together, with the other half consisting of the score tallied at a team's NCAA Qualifier match.
  • Saturday's match will also serve as senior day for the Rebels. Ole Miss rifle will honor Claire O'Neel, beginning after the match around 5 p.m.
  • When the Rebels faced the Tigers in November, a few program records were broken. The biggest was the program's record for match aggregate score as the team shot a 4743.
  • This past week against the Tigers, the Rebels shot a 2384 in air rifle which is good for second in program history
  • The Rebels lead in the all-time series against Memphis with a 11-2 record, winning the last nine matches. Ole Miss is 2-0 over the Tigers this season and haven't loss to them since 2016 in Jacksonville, Alabama. Ole Miss is also 7-0 at home.
  • Ole Miss finished conference play with a 5-2 GARC record and are 17-3 in the conference the last three seasons.
  • The Rebels win over UT Martin earned Coach Marsha Beasley her 200th career win.
  • The team averages the fifth best aggregate score of 4718.2 in the nation. The Rebels are fourth in smallbore (2343.9) and fifth in air rifle (2374.3).
  • Ole Miss is one of three teams with two players averaging in the top-15 at air rifle. Derting averages 595.7 and Horvath averages 594.8.

  • Freshmen Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira both have a score of 590 or higher in smallbore. Ole Miss is one of two programs with at least two freshmen to score 590 or higher in smallbore. They are also two of just 11 freshmen to hit the mark.
  • Horvath's 1194 aggregate score is tied seventh highest in the nation with Julie Johannessen. It also tied the school's smallbore record of 594 twice this season.
  • M'Leah Lambdin had a career day in a win over Memphis on Saturday. The sophomore shattered her career-high in smallbore and aggregate score. Lambdin shot a 590 in smallbore and ended with a 1180 aggregate score.

Last Time on the Range
OXFORD, Miss – Ole Miss rifle win a close match against No. 12 Memphis, 4725-4721. The Rebels take down the Tigers for the second time this season.

Ole Miss (8-2, 5-2 GARC) did just enough in air rifle to overcome No. 12 Memphis (4-8, 2-6 GARC). The Rebels and Tigers were even after smallbore, both shot a 2341. It was the Rebels' 2384 air rifle score compared to the Tigers' 2380 that made the difference.

The navy and red had four of the top five performing shooters in the match. In no surprise, Lea Horvath topped the list with a 1186 aggregate score. When you have Horvath in first that means Kristen Derting is second. The senior fired a 1181 aggregate. M'Leah Lambdin, a non-counter, smashed her career-high aggregate score to finish fourth overall. Lambdin hit a 1180 which is six points higher than her previous mark. Emma Pereira wrapped up the top-5 with a 1180 as well.

Two shooters shot higher than a 590 and both shoot for the Rebels. Horvath had the best smallbore score of 592. In second, Lambdin past her smallbore career-high by seven points with a 590. Pereira and Derting also landed in the top-5, scoring a 588 and 585. Ole Miss and Memphis shot a 2341 however Ole Miss edged Memphis with three more X-shots.

The Rebels having three of the top-five air rifle scores put them over the top. At the very top, Claire O'Neel fired a season-high 598, which is one off her career-high. O'Neel has shot her three highest air rifle scores of the season the last three matches. Derting and Martina Gratz placed third and fourth, both hit a 596.

Memphis had its best performance of the season with an aggreagate match score of 4721. That score was enough to push their average over 4700 on the season, making them the 12th school to do so. The Tigers tied their season-high smallbore score of 2341 and fired their best air rifle score. Gabriela Zych finished second overall with a 1184 aggregate score. Zych shot a 588 in smallbore, which was third-best, and a 596 in air rifle, which was the second highest.

Ole Miss will see No. 12 Memphis again for the NCAA Qualifiers on Saturdaym February 18, starting at 8 a.m.

Scouting the Opponent
The Tigers, coached by Morgan Phillips in her first season, are 4-8 overall and finished 2-5 in the conference. Memphis is having a better end to the season as they have won two of their last four matches, defeating No. 19 UT Martin and No. 8 Murray State. Despite losing to Ole Miss on Saturday, Memphis fired their best score of the season with a 4721. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation.

The team averages an aggregate score of 4683.3 per match. They are led by senior Angeline Henry in both smallbore and air rifle. Henry averages a smallbore score of 584.2 and an air rifle score of 593.9 for a total of 1178.1. Freshman Gabriela Zych is making a huge impact in the lineup as well. Zych is the other player on the roster averaging over 590 in air rifle along with an average score of 579.9 in smallbore. She also was the top performing Tiger on Saturday against the Rebels.

Series History
The Rebels lead in the all-time series against Memphis with a 11-2 record, winning the last nine matches. Ole Miss is 2-0 over the Tigers this season and haven't loss to them since 2016 in Jacksonville, Alabama. Ole Miss is also 7-0 at home.

QUALIFIED
Ole Miss rifle has dominated in NCAA Qualifying matches. The Rebels are a perfect 5-0 in the last five seasons.

In the program's history, the Rebels average a score of 4622.7 in NCAA Qualifiers in years of the new scoring system.

Fierce February
In the last five season, Ole Miss rifle has been almost unstoppable in the month of February, tallying a 12-2 record. The only two losses both occurred during the 2019-20 season against No. 2 TCU and No. 4 Nebraska in back-to-back weeks.

This year, the Rebels play two matches in February and they are both against No. 12 Memphis, who the Rebels defeated 4743- 4670 back in November. It was the Rebels largest win of the season.

Horvathing A Good Time
Lea Horvath became the only women in NCAA history to score a perfect 600 in air rifle three times in their career. The junior has scored perfect in every season of her career as a Rebel. She is one of four to shoot perfect this season.

Horvath also broke some school records. She tied the match smallbore score with a 594 twice this year and three times total. She shattered the record for match aggregate score, which she previously held with a 1194.

LAMBDIN IT!
M'leah Lambdin had a career day in the Rebels' 4725-4721 win over Memphis on Saturday. She broke both her career-high in smallbore and aggregate score. In smallbore, the sophomore shot a 590 which puts her on small list of shooters. The mark was seven points higher than her previous high.

After also shooting a 590 in air rifle, Lambdin finished with a 1180 aggregate score which is six points higher than her previous high. It's also 19 points higher than her season-high.

GRATZCIOUS
Sophomore Martina Gratz put up a 595 air rifle score in the Rebels win over No. 10 Akron which was her season-high. It is also one point below Gratz's career-high of 596.

Gratz was a huge reasons Ole Miss pulled of the one-point victory over No. 10 Akron. Since the top two air rifle performances of the match were on the Zips, Gratz's performance was needed to secure the victory.

Our Best Days
When the Rebels match up with Memphis, they tend to shoot their best. In the last five meetings, Ole Miss rifle has fired four of their top-10 marks in program history. This season, the Rebels broke the program record for aggregate score with a 4743.

Especially in air rifle as the Rebels shot five of top-10 air rifle scores when facing Memphis.

Freshman Duo
In their first year at Ole Miss, Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira are making significant impacts in the lineup. They are two of the 38 different shooters to score a 590 or above in the nation in smallbore. Hays, from Maplewood, Minnesota, has been a counter for the team in both smallbore and air rifle all season. She shot 591 and twice shooting a 593 in air rifle this season. She is third on the team for smallbore average, air rifle and aggregate score.

Pereira is one of Ole Miss' five smallbore counters and has joined air rifle counters late in the season. She shot a 594 in air rifle against No. 3 Kentucky. She also scored a 590 in smallbore and an 1183 aggregate against No. 12 Murray State. All were season and career highs.
