Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach: Jack Henry Heafner
2/22/2023 | Baseball
Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Ole Miss Rebels to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Jack Henry Heafner of Batesville, Mississippi.
When Jack Henry was about 6 months old, he started having spells when he would get upset and hold his breath until he passed out. As he neared his first birthday, the episodes grew more frequent and worse. He would stop breathing for long periods, turn blue, and his heart would stop beating. Eventually, those periods with no heartbeat went from a few seconds to over a minute.
After numerous doctor's appointments and heart tests, his pediatrician in Memphis sent Jack Henry to the pediatric heart specialists at Children's of Mississippi for surgery to implant a pacemaker.
His family says all of Jack Henry's doctors and nurses in ICU and on the heart floor were wonderful, and they could not have asked for better treatment. Jack Henry also took full advantage of all the kid-friendly features at the hospital. He loved riding in the wagons and the toy cars, zooming down the halls to the playroom.
After a successful and uncomplicated surgery, Jack Henry's prognosis is great! He is a happy, healthy boy who can do almost anything any 11-year-old can do.
Have fun at Saturday's game, Jack Henry. Your friends at Children's of Mississippi are cheering for you!
