Women’s Tennis Comeback Falls Short at Auburn

Kareisova Grabs Another Ranked Singles Win
AUBURN, AL – Ole Miss women's tennis got down early and could not fight all the way back in a 4-3 loss to Auburn. Ludmila Kareisova took down her second ranked singles opponent in the last three matches.
Ole Miss (7-4, 1-2 SEC) dropped the doubles point to Auburn (12-2, 2-0 SEC), losing at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize still impressed at No. 2 doubles, leading their match 5-3 against the 64th-ranked doubles team before it went unfinished.
In singles action, the Tigers jumped on the Rebels with singles wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Despite Ole Miss being down 3-0 the Rebels fought back, starting with Rachel Krzyzak on court six. Krzyzak earned her first dual singles win of the season, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-3.
Kareisova cut the lead down further, beating No. 41 Carolyn Ansari in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-1. Kareiesova leads the team with five total ranked wins. Gabrielsen quickly followed with her own 7-6(1), 7-5 sweep, which tied the match at 3-3. The win would be decided on court five.
Reka Zadori battled in the third set after losing the first, 6-4, then winning the second, 7-5. Unfortunately, Zadori did not win the tiebreaker, and the Rebels fell to Auburn.
The Rebels look to bounce back on Sunday, March 12, at Alabama. The match will start at 1 p.m. CT.
