Kareisova Extends Her Singles Win Streak to Six
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss women's tennis dropped their second straight match 4-3, this time to Alabama on Sunday.
Ole Miss (7-5, 1-3 SEC) lost the first doubles match at No. 2 doubles; however, the team evened the score with a win at No. 3 doubles. Rachel Krzyzak joined Emma Kette for her first doubles match in conference play. The switch worked for the Rebels as the duo won 6-3. Unfortunately, doubles on court two fell, and the Rebels were down 1-0 to Alabama (9-4, 2-1 SEC) early.
The Crimson Tide extended their lead, winning at No. 1 singles. The Rebels cut into Alabama's lead when Krzyzak finished her match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The sophomore is starting to catch fire, winning her last two singles matches.
Following Krzyzak's win, Ludmila Kareisova tied the match at the two position. Despite being down early in the first set, Kareisova fought back to win 7-5. She took that momentum into the second set for a 6-2 finish.
Alabama took the lead back with a win at No. 5 singles. Ole Miss needed to win its next two singles matches, and Emma Kette delivered. The freshman won her second set 6-3, forcing a third set after losing her opening set. Kette wasted no time in the third, taking down her opponent 6-1.
Lillian Gabrielsen was also able to prompt a third set, however, she was unable to win the match.
The Rebels stay on the road to Arkansas for a match on Friday, March 17, starting at 4 p.m. CT.
