Kid Coach: Evan Renfroe

Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach: Evan Renfroe

3/22/2023 | Baseball

Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Ole Miss Rebels to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.

This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Evan Renfroe of Lena, MS.

Evan was born with spina bifida, a birth defect of the spinal cord. Of the three most common types, myelomeningocele, which is the type Evan has, is the most serious.

To help manage his care, Evan sees the pediatric specialists at Children's of Mississippi. So far, his team has included staff from urology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, and rehab. Evan really likes the way they care for him, and their openness in dealing with his issues. He appreciates that they communicate with him directly and don't talk about him to his parents. He also says the staff in the Child Life Department can make any day a happy day, no matter how bad it is.

Because spina bifida is a lifelong diagnosis, Evan will have the pediatric team at Children's of Mississippi on his side throughout his childhood. Evan is well-mannered and able to talk about his issues. He loves to educate people about his condition and is willing to help anyone--young or old.

Evan LOVES music, video games, board games, history, cows, horror movies, his dog Capo, going to camp, hunting, fishing, being outdoors, baseball, soccer, and lots of other stuff!

Have fun at Saturday's game, Evan. Your friends at Children's of Mississippi are cheering for you!
